Why don't doctors ever tell you anything? My dad was in the hospital for three days before they told him anything at all. "You have blood clots. Jesu- umm, yep blood clots."

I know! It aggrevates the hell out of me. I learn about some new thing I have everytime I see a new doctor. I've come to realize that they treat older people and disabled people differently. They assume it's just "part of the condition" or "a normal part of aging" and just don't say anything about it. How's your dad doing now? I hope he's getting better.

I know they treat older people differently. "Oh, you don't need that surgery. You're just going to die in five or ten years."

It's one thing if the knowledge isn't going to help you. Like telling my dad he's got more or fewer clots isn't going to help him care for himself (though I think he has the right to know what's going on with his own body). But in your case, not knowing had direct consequences. That's terrible.

Dad's doing pretty well. He still has pain in the leg, but he thinks that's probably permanent. Which means he's healed. :-/
