I had an appointment with the physiatrist today. I like him a lot. I found out a lot of things I didn’t know. The most serious of them being that 10 years ago they found compression fractures at the T10, 11 and 12 levels in my back. No one told me and I just found out about that this morning. I also found out that when I was working out regularly I really strengthened my upper body but I was unable to work my back muscles so I actually made matters worse by strengthening the muscles that make me hunch over. So my back is really screwed up. I’m going to Gillette hospital in the twin cities sometime in the near future to have an MRI of my back and see a specialist. He asked me if I ever considered surgery. I said only as a last resort. He said surgery would be very risky and there’s a good chance they could cut the blood supply off to my spine and I’d be paralyzed. So surgery is not an option. He also thinks that urologist I saw is full of shit. So I’m going to probably have another appointment with a different urologist and see what can be done with that issue. He thought botox might be effective. There’s also a new drug they might try.
Hopefully I’ll be able to find some good PC A’s. I gave my revised ad to the Home Care agency but they shortened it again. They told me what the changes were and it sounds OK. However, if I don’t like it I’m just going to place the ad myself and not say anything to them about it. I was going to start going to the gym with my help next week but I guess I’ll have to change my plans a bit for the immediate future. When I am able to start going back to the gym I’m going to talk to the physiatrist about helping me keep my rides and stuff. He was really upset when I told him that the state canceled my rides. So I’m sure he’d be willing to write letters or do whatever was needed to help me.
After my appointment I had lunch at the café near my house. Then I took a leisurely stroll back home. Its 75° today. They’re saying this is going to be the last warm day we’ll have for awhile. So I need to enjoy it while it lasts. I’m really not looking forward to the winter. Maybe it won’t be so bad. Global warming has made winters here a lot milder. I’m hoping if I wait long enough the ocean will make its way here LOL. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I may not be leaving Minnesota anytime soon. When I move it will probably be down to Minneapolis. I like Minneapolis and I know I can get good healthcare here. My health has to be my first priority. I also have a lot of friends in the twin cities. So when and if I move that’s where I’ll go.
