The charms of old films--and their customs

Certain films have so much magic they get remade, though the remakes can feel very different. You've Got Mail was the latest iteration of Lubitsch's The Shop Around the Corner a charming and brilliantly written film from 1940 that I watched recently, and discovered some entertaining elements.

Now that mnfaure has provided the link--and I don't have to wait for Netflix--maybe I can do it later today.

It's great. I don't prefer it to the musical She Loves Me, because that has a wonderful score and (in the original cast) Barbara Cook, but no other adaptation has ever come close for me.

A very common Chinese breakfast is deep-fried dough (non-sweet) called you tiao cut up and put into rice porridge. Another version is lengths of the same dough dunked into coffee.

I thought about Court Duel at once! It only works if the reasons for dislike are not substantive ones.
