Ice climbing was fantastic, even though we did it in the rain -- a severe weather warning, in fact! What an experience to climb a vertical wall of ice with just ice picks and spikes on my feet! We are now in Queenstown -- adventure capital of the world. We're booked in for an adrenaline activity tomorrow, but I'm keeping it a secret til later

the Bath-house is a fantastic place to sit with a beer, and look at the lake.
the booking office for one of the jet boats [downstairs on one of the jetties] has an underwater viewing window where you can see the scaup diving.... they look silver when they do that.
walk through the park past the Bath-house, over the bridge, and turn left, and follow the little path. the birds are lovely, especially just after sunrise.

The hut system here is really very nice, and allows even old farts who can no longer comfortably carry the poundage necessary for most unsupported tramping to get out in the wilds.
Another nice thing about NZ.
