I am certifiable apparently

I passed my Driving Test! Woohoo! I did all the right things and only made a couple of Grade 2 errors and so passed on a not perfect but will do ticket. Phew! such a relief! The wanker did not tell me I had passed, although I was hopeful by the way he was quietly conversational on the way back to the office; however having me sign my 'certificate ( Read more... )

Well done!

Now you have to remember to keep death off the roads and drive on the pavement!

Thanks!

A lot of this does not translate into American, including the having to take a separate test if I ever want to drive a shift.

People have been known to drive on the pavement here, but normally only in cop movies and when they've had heart attacks, etc!

One can buy a bumper-sticker that says, "if you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk!"

Hurrah! Congratulations!

Perhaps someone ought to donate them some reading matter?

There was a shredded copy of some cheapass gossip rag but for me the notices on the wall and the lousy road carnage puns were about all I could muster up the focus for as my fight or flight mode was well kicked in by then.

PS - do you now have to have R plates, or is that just us? I had a feeling that we adopted it from Eire.

Nope. No R plates, but they are talking about them. They are also talking about things like recent immigrant adn freshly passed people having to drive at a lower speed limit - so that might give you the level of intellectual rigour going into this process.

As far as I can tell the Manx government accept driving licences from anywhere as a driving licence, full stop - so no restrictions on recent immigrants etc - except that if you have been resident for more than three months you must take your valid Polish/Philipino/English licence into the relevant government office and apply for a Manx one. This is a good revenue earner!

We have 1 year of R plates during which you may not go at more than 5o mph. This applies to anyone driving a car wih R plates, so if I forget to take D-d's off, and drive at 6o I am breaking the law.

We have 1 year of R plates during which you may not go at more than 5o mph. Wow! I went faster than 50 mph on my test, not much but a bit, 90 kph. We do not recognize all licenses and this too has been a nice revenue earner but there are moves afoot to tighten up as the number of recent immigrants dying in road accidents is pretty scary statistics wise. R plates could be a good idea but as people are willing to risk certain death in order to overtake a learner now Heaven knows what they would do in the name of speed if there was that kind of restriction here.

Congrats on passing your driving test.

Even though you all drive on the wrong side of the road...
