I thought it was fairly faithful to the canon, except perhaps in mood. And, even though it was a bit Dan Brown, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was in to spiritualism in a big way, so it worked for me.
My understanding is that this version (which I've yet to see) is actually more faithful to the actual books than the classics we've come to associate with Holmes. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Really? In that Holmes and Watson lived in Baker street with a landlady named Mrs. Hudson, sure. I didn't mind the twisting out of place of Irene Adler. Mary was a bit out of left field, though.
If you don't like what he does, you probably won't like him in the role. And no one else seems to have either screen time or be invested enough to really stand out. I like RDjr for the most part, so it was fun.
