I thought it was fairly faithful to the canon, except perhaps in mood. And, even though it was a bit Dan Brown, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was in to spiritualism in a big way, so it worked for me.

I thought it was fun.

My understanding is that this version (which I've yet to see) is actually more faithful to the actual books than the classics we've come to associate with Holmes. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

The Watson is far more like the Watson in the books, I grant, than the Rathbone/Bruce movies. It's a fun movie!

Really? In that Holmes and Watson lived in Baker street with a landlady named Mrs. Hudson, sure. I didn't mind the twisting out of place of Irene Adler. Mary was a bit out of left field, though.

I too thought Watson was more faithful to the books.

I liked the little details - the shooting of Queen Victoria's initials into the wall, for example....

Haven't seen it yet, but the Holmes in the trailer isn't like Doyle's Holmes. Not in personality, at least.
