Swash Swash, Buckle Buckle

So, saw Dead Man's Chest. Am now officially torn between signing up at ot3_100 for Jack/Will/Elizabeth or Jack/Will/Norrington. Of course, you're all required to stop me from doing either.

But, anyway, on to spoiler-packed thoughts, all safely behind the cut, and all wonderfully chaotic. I write as memories come back to me.

You are not allowed to sign up for more ot3 challenges. Unless it's like Taijouto or Joumira or DaiMiyaMi or another Quidditch girls thing. <3 Then I would be behind you 100%.

Coicindetially, is PoC really good? Because I'm avoiding it on the conviction that it will destroy my childhood. I grew up on the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disney World, loved the one in Disneyland and still vividly remember watching a Wonderful World of Disney special on it back when the Disney Channel did Vault Disney late at night, instead of endless Lizzie McGuire and Raven reruns... =P

Was considering the Quidditchcest threesome, but I'm not sure if I can have more than one claim from the same fandom. And, oh, don't tempt me with the Digimon threesomes. I was seriously considering Daitakeken, but I was worried it would distract me from digimondrabbles, especially since I've been neglecting it so much lately. Stupid real world... *grumble grumble*

PotC is definitely really good. It's incredibly silly and fun and like eating ice cream with friends and gossiping about homosexual undertones in family movies. I will say that it's not really anything to do with the ride at all (aside from a few sight gags, like the dog with keys in its mouth in the jail and, in the sequel, the Navy guy being lowered into the well) so I'd suggest not associating it with Disney or your childhood at all before you watch it.

...I miss when the Disney channel was good.

*nods fervently* Now they're just Nickelodeon with more family-friendly pressure. XD They do own the English-language rights for Digimon now, though. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, though. The subtitles on Disney-dubbed/subbed Spirited Away nags at me just a little, for some undefinable reason. (And not just because they didn't punctuate. At all.) I'd have to watch it again...

I love that dog. I just don't like Johnny Depp. (His Willy Wonka looks like Marilyn Manson, and with no offense to Mr. Manson... Gene Wilder fits my mental image so much better. Willy Wonka is the only movie that I have ever, ever enjoyed as much as the book.)

I've only watched Spirited Away dubbed, but if they don't punctuate the subtitles then I won't be able to watch it that way, since nothing rips me out a movie faster than screaming at spelling mistakes and poor grammar in subtitles. It drives me crazy!

I had no idea they owned Digimon. I suck. And I don't know whether to be happy or terrified. XD

Ah, you see, Johnny Depp had me at a young age, and I've been a fan ever since. The new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was kind of fun and all, but it was him in Cry Baby that got me; it was my favourite film as a kid, the first film I learned to love that wasn't animated, although that could be because it plays like a cartoon. I still break out the soundtrack on occasion when I'm washing up. "He's a king, King Cry Baby!" That film is so daft that it becomes a work of genius. And there was 21 Jump Street ("Jump! Down on Jump Street!" Best crappy theme tune ever!) And Edward Scissorhands is one of my favourite films of all time. *humps Tim Burton's leg ( ... )

"I feel sullied and unusual."

Best. Line. Ever.

I choose that to mean turned on.

Because. Hee.

It's like the flyby handjob that never happened.

Yes, the flyby handjob where the cum is promptly wiped off on Gibb's jacket.

And for years afterward, Gibbs will have the bestest luck catching fish as the sea creatures positively throw themselves at him.

Jack doesn't find anything unusual about his own sudden popularity with fish kind. It's been happening to him for years.

Mmm. Essence of Davy Jones.

Really? Awesome! I'd been avoiding all potential spoilers, so I hadn't read any interviews with the cast before I saw it, and I've only just started going back through last month's movie magazines to read the articles, so I had no idea about the special effects. If it was a Gollum effort, well, I'm desperately impressed. And Nighy must be used to contacts after Underworld, weren't his eyes white or an incredibly pale blue in that film?

You've hit the nail on the head as to why I love Jones, and why he's special kind of villain. There's a motivation for his actions, rather than him just prancing around being evil for the sake of it. There's so much mystery there, such potential, and I do want him to have some sense of redemption, or at least a sense of emotional closure. I don't just want him defeated in the way I was rooting for the good guys against Barbossa. And, yeah, Barbossa meeting Jones is going to be amazingAnd I hadn't noticed the tentacles clutching the hat! That has me squeeing like crazy. Damn, I'm not going to see it ( ... )

Actually I found out (thanks to Wikipedia... OH NOES!) most of Nighy's mo-cap work was on the set. No blue screen, or green screen or whatever. So he was in the gray pjs on set... And he had dots all over his face, too (which would explain Jones's surprising expressiveness)...

What was also interesting was that they decided to combine Davy Jones (possibly sailor-speak for "Devil Jonah") with the legend of The Flying Dutchman. The story goes that the captain of the ship in question found himself in a becalmed sea, and dared to ask the Devil for a wind... so now he sails the sea forever... Added to that were bits about how the captain is allowed to go on land every ten years, a lost love, etc. Wagner did an opera about the whole thing.

Methinks it might have been asking too much for The Flying Dutchman to actually fly... :)

And I must admit that the bit where Pintel and Ragetti argue about the pronunciation of "Kraken" was for real geek types like me... the screenwriters did their homework...
