The child-like smile that had been on Mukuro's turned into a slight smirk as he pocketed his L337Pod and getting up from his seat.

Once upon a time, he had been that innocent too, but now he wasn't any more after what his family had done to him. However, he was remembering what it was like to be naive. After all, despite his seven years, Mukuro probably had experienced a lot more things compared to the other kids on the island. It'd only been two years since he had killed his family and left the labs with the others.

But now wasn't the time to think about things like that. He had the chance to be somewhat innocent again, for however short a time it would be. Since the mafia was no where near here, he didn't have to play his "games" on the members of his new family. He could actually be a kid ( ... )

He tilted his head to the side, thinking about what Zero had told him. In the end, neither way was safe for them but which way was quicker? Mukuro didn't know. The more logical part of his mind said to keep quiet so that they wouldn't alert the monsters to them. But the chance of getting lost the deeper they went was higher. If they yelled then Ichiru could hear them, but monsters would know where they were and chase after them. And if that were to happen, he could always use his powers but then that would put a burden on Zero, since he would most likely pass out.

Either way, he didn't know which way to go.

"I'm not sure. Both ways seem dangerous," Mukuro said, looking up at the silver haired boy. "What would Zero-kun do?"

Zero stared stared at the young boy for a long thoughtful moment before responding. "I would choose the fastest way to find Ichiru. If I yell then I would be making myself a target... better me and than Ichiru...". He stared at the floor. "But Mukuro-kun is also with me and that is a selfish choice, yet... that is still my choice," he admitted. "Maybe... you should turn back and I can do the yelling..." he said as a way of compromising. "I won't take long."

Mukuro frowned at the older boy. "But that's too dangerous for Zero-kun!" He held onto the other's hand, to make sure that Zero wouldn't try to shake him off and then run deeper into the forest. "We said we'd watch out for each other. I can't do that if I go back." Where this bout of stubbornness had come from, he had no clue, but it was here and insisting that he stay with the other boy. To not leave his side unless forced. It was an almost odd feeling. "I'm staying with Zero-kun."

Mukuro's earnest reply to his words were not surprising but nor were they expected. "Okay," he nodded. "But we'll have to be fast," he told him and without waiting for the other boy to reply, he grabbed his hand and pulled him forward as they took off running.

"Ichiru!" He yelled as he tightened his grip on his comapanion. If they were indeed running into danger then he would make sure they were together. They had a better chance of survival if they didn't seperate.

"Ichiru! Are you here?"

Doing his best to keep up with the older boy, Mukuro began to call out for Ichiru as well while on the look out for any possible monsters. So far they had been lucky, but even that was only going to last for so long. With how loud they were yelling, it was only a matter of time.

I just hope we don't run into any monsters, Mukuro thought to himself as he continued to yell, hoping the twin would be able to hear them if he was in the forest.

Somehow, Zero seemed to be doing just fine, not tripping over anything. Mukuro on the other had to watch where he was going. He wasn't used to this kind of thing after all, having been rather sheltered in either a laboratory or the mansion of his new family. Even if it he did get some exercise, it wasn't enough for him to entirely physically fit. He would be the first to admit that he was on the scrawny side ( ... )

At Mukuro's warning, silver eyes flicked behind them. He had also heard the low growl. The creature was still a bit behind but the rattling vegetation behind them indicated that wouldn't be the case for long. With renewed vigor, Zero increased his pace and broke out into a flat run using the hand he now held tightly in order to pull Mukuro along. No longer wasting their breath's on yelling for his brother, they ran faster, but it was a doomed strategy. He knew they couldn't keep up the pace for long, and more importantly, even with this burst of speed, the creature was faster than them ( ... )

Everything had happened so fast, the only thing Mukuro could do was cling onto Zero and do as the older boy had said. He placed a hand over his mouth and tried to quiet his breathing as best he could, hoping that the monster coming closer to where they were hiding wouldn't hear. Mismatched eyes stared at the creature, a flash of fear going through them ( ... )

When Mukuro clung onto him, Zero grunted in pain, well aware that he had sprung his shoulder when he had swung the boy onto the branch. He had tried to keep it to himself, but with the creature just below them it was only a matter of time before it would become apparent. Zero had hoped the creature would continue on its path and pass right by them, but that wasn't the case, and now the monster had spotted them. It looked like a large cat, but instead of fur, its body was covered with scales. Zero had never seen such a creature and just by the size of it, he knew he didn't have a hope of fighting against it. He was still ten years old, not yet fully grown nor did he have the necessary training to fight it. He had begun his lessons not too long ago, and was in no way equipped to take down such a creature by himself, let alone while trying to protect another. Running out of options, Zero ran dozens of possibilities through his head. "If only I had a weapon," he thought to himself right before the large cat jumped onto the same branch the ( ... )

Zero didn't question Mukuro's words, instead he focused on getting them away from there as fast as possible, there would be time for questions later, but not now. '

He grabbed Mukuro's hand with his good arm and took off. If nothing else, he was fast for someone his age. Jumping down from branch to branch, they quickly made it down the tree, and as soon as their feet touched the ground, they were running again. Hopefully, the illusion Mukuro had said he'd put the creature under would hold for as long as it took them to get out of the forest.
