The child-like smile that had been on Mukuro's turned into a slight smirk as he pocketed his L337Pod and getting up from his seat.

Once upon a time, he had been that innocent too, but now he wasn't any more after what his family had done to him. However, he was remembering what it was like to be naive. After all, despite his seven years, Mukuro probably had experienced a lot more things compared to the other kids on the island. It'd only been two years since he had killed his family and left the labs with the others.

But now wasn't the time to think about things like that. He had the chance to be somewhat innocent again, for however short a time it would be. Since the mafia was no where near here, he didn't have to play his "games" on the members of his new family. He could actually be a kid.

Grabbing a light jacket that was actually too big for him, Mukuro put it on before leaving the house he was staying in and ran to the park to meet his new... friend. Running at his top speed, it wasn't long before made it there, spotting a head of silver hair. Placing on his innocent facade, which was surprisingly a lot easier to do now than when he'd been at the mansion with his family, he called out to the other.

"Zero-kun!"

For a second he almost thought it was Ichiru, but the "kun" at the end of his name was not how his brother addressed him. There were no honorifics between them.

He turned around, silver eyes spotting the younger boy. "Mukuro-kun...?" he said as the energetic boy ran up to him. "Thank you for coming... for helping me."

When Mukuro reached Zero, he took a moment to catch his breath, a "It's okay!" coming out in between pants. It'd been a while since he had ran like that, so it took a lot more out of him than he thought. Taking a deep breath and letting it go slowly, he stood up from his crouched position and smiled up at the taller boy. "Like I said, I'm glad that I can help Zero-kun out."

A small part of him wondered what the silver haired boy could do in case they ran into trouble, but figured he would find out if and or when the time actually came. And if it really came down to it, he could use his own power to cast an illusion so that they could get away. The major downside to that though was that he would be too tired to even stand. That was why he was always sleeping the day after playing his "game". But again, he'd only do it if it was really needed.

"Anyway, we should start before it gets dark." On impulse, Mukuro grabbed Zero's hand and gently tugged at the older boy. "Let's go!"

He blinked in mild surprise, cheeks coloring a bit as he stared at the hand holding his own for a moment, the familiar gesture catching him off guard. The shorter boy really did act like Ichiru. However, he didn't have time to say anything before he was pulled forward and they hurried to the Forest. With his free hand, he pulled out the communication device, his eyes scanning the instructions he had already pulled up before Mukuro arrived. They made good timing as they jogged to the Forest, and by the time they arrived Zero was barely out of breath. Yagari-sensei had given him harder tasks for his training. Also, having one of the strongest Vampire Hunter lineages running through his veins did a lot to make him physically capable.

Once they arrived at the forest, mismatched eyes looked around cautiously if somewhat nervously as Mukuro caught his breath. He was only lightly out of breath this time around but he still needed an extra second. What surprised him a little was that Zero seemed perfectly fine.

Probably from that training with that Master Yagari person, Mukuro thought to himself.

"Zero-kun is amazing," he said, amazement on his face. "You don't even look tired."

The praise caught him off guard, and he stared at the ground for a second before looking up. "You kept up with me the entire time... Mukuro is also amazing," he said quietly.

He then looked away from the boy to look at the Forest. "We should get started before it gets dark and we can't see anything," he said matter-of-factly as he surveyed the area. "Always know your surroundings," Master Yagari often told him. "You either use the environment to your own advantage or the enemy will."

"Are you sure you want to come with me?" he asked Mukuro, giving him one last chance to change his mind.

Mukuro blinked in surprise at the compliment but smiled all the same. If he were honest, that had been the first bit of praise he had ever received, in this lifetime and the previous ones. It was an almost heady feeling to get it but he knew he shouldn't let it go to his head. Zero didn't know what he had done and what he was possibly capable of.

Innocent ignorance was bliss.

He nodded in agreement about getting started before it was too dark, but frowned a little when the other had asked him that question again. "Yes, I'm sure. I'm not going to let Zero-kun go in there by himself," he said, face set in determination. Stepping closer to the older boy, Mukuro took Zero's hand in his own again. "I'll watch out for Zero-kun just like Zero-kun will watch out for me, while we both will watch out for Ichiru-kun."

Nodding, Zero accepted his decision. "We will watch out for each other," he said, his eyes straying to the Forest before they returned to the Mukuro's unusual eyecolor. The only creature he knew about that had two different eyecolors was a vampire... could his new companion possibly be-- "...Mukuro-kun," Zero murmured, "... why do you have two different eyecolors?"

Said eyes blinked in surprise again before Mukuro brought up his free hand to lightly touch his right eye. This wasn't the first time someone had asked him, so he was used to it. Still, that didn't make the memories of the experiments done on him any better when he was reminded every time his eye was mentioned. It wasn't like it was his intention to be born with his right eye like that. His eye that was the base of his power.

"I was born like this, but my old family... they used to do experiments on me too, so now it's like this," Mukuro explained, his voice quieter than it had been. "They died though and now I have a new family."

Mismatched eyes looked up at Zero in curiosity. "Why do you ask, Zero-kun?"

Shocked silver eyes stared back at the younger boy as he mentioned being experimented on so casually, and by his family... he couldn't even fathom such a cruel thing. His parents weren't perfect, but they would never put him and Ichiru through anything like that.

Slowly, as not to frighten him, Zero brought up a hand and laid it on top of Mukuro's head, petting him. "I'm sorry you had to go through that," he said sincerely. "It's an unusual trait so I was curious," he answered him, keeping his thoughts to himself. Dropping his hand, Zero tugged on the smaller hand in his own. "We should get going before it get's dark," he said, moving the conversation away from the last question.

A light blush colored Mukuro cheeks when Zero had petted him on the head, but once again smiled up at the older boy. This person was very different compared to the ones he'd met so far. It gave him an odd feeling and he had to wonder if this was what it would have been like if he had been a normal kid. Without powers, without the memories of his past lives.

Unfortunately, there was no time to think about this as they had to start on what they had intended to do: find Ichiru.

"Yes, let's go." With that, Mukuro followed the older boy deeper into the forest. A part of him hoped that Zero's brother wasn't in the forest, since it actually was dangerous. But they could be looking around the forest forever if Ichiru really wasn't there and they didn't know.

He took out his L337Pod, hoping that it would help somehow in their search for another silver haired boy.

As the younger boy played with the communication device, the two entered the forest. Zero made sure to stay within a hands length away from Mukuro. If the forest really was dangerous he wanted to be nearby in case they were attacked.

"What are you trying to do?" Zero asked his companion as they treaded through the forest.

"Trying to see if this can help us look for Ichiru-kun or not," Mukuro replied, eyes continuously darting from the L337Pod to their surroundings. After all, what kind of help would he be if he wasn't looking out like Zero was. He frowned, not really understanding half of the things on the device. "Ichiru-kun should have one too, so I thought that maybe we could find him like that, but I don't really know how this thing works."

"I found Ritsuka-kun using that," he said, pointing to the LP in Mukuro's hand. "But I don't know how I did it... I was pushing buttons and stumbled onto the information... if I had paid more attention," he said, looking guilty,"then we could have found him already."

"Don't worry Zero-kun," Mukuro said, trying to make his tone one of reassurance. It was a slightly difficult thing to do considering he didn't know how to console a person or even cheer them up. He was going on instinct alone for this little venture. But instinct seemed to be working for the time being.

The seven year old began fiddling with the L337Pod again, hoping to figure it out soon or somehow. "I'm sure we'll be able to find Ichiru-kun. I just hope he isn't here," he said, now looking around. "We shouldn't go too far though or we might get lost."

Mukuro's words were kind, but they did nothing to alleviate his guilt. He doubted anything the boy said to him could do such a thing. Guilt was something so entrenched in his heart when it came to his sickly younger brother that it had become a commonplace feeling.

Zero nodded at Mukuro's advice."The fastest way to make sure he isn't here is also the best way to encounter something dangerous," he told his companion, his mind back at the task at hand rather than the guilt he felt. "If we yell Ichiru's name, then we won't have to search the entire forest just the general area. But if we yell, we'll be giving our location away to the monsters here," Zero then stopped and turned to Mukuro. "What do you think?"
