Everything had happened so fast, the only thing Mukuro could do was cling onto Zero and do as the older boy had said. He placed a hand over his mouth and tried to quiet his breathing as best he could, hoping that the monster coming closer to where they were hiding wouldn't hear. Mismatched eyes stared at the creature, a flash of fear going through them.

With Zero's fast thinking, he didn't have to use his powers, but if the monster wouldn't go away or worse try to get them from the tree, he would. He would just have to trust the older boy to take care of him while he was unconscious. And admittedly, if only to himself, that prospect didn't sit well with him. He'd only just met the silver haired boy and entrusting the other with his body? Well, Mukuro had entrusted his life in the other's hands so far, so perhaps...

The younger boy was snapped out of his thoughts at the growling the monster was emitting right below them. It was sniffing the air now and their biggest hope was that it was dumb enough not to look up. But that wishful thinking had been short when glowing yellow eyes looked directly at them and began to claw at the tree in attempt to reach them.

Only as a last resort, Mukuro thought to himself as he whimpered and clung onto Zero tighter. He would wait to see what the older boy would do first.

When Mukuro clung onto him, Zero grunted in pain, well aware that he had sprung his shoulder when he had swung the boy onto the branch. He had tried to keep it to himself, but with the creature just below them it was only a matter of time before it would become apparent. Zero had hoped the creature would continue on its path and pass right by them, but that wasn't the case, and now the monster had spotted them. It looked like a large cat, but instead of fur, its body was covered with scales. Zero had never seen such a creature and just by the size of it, he knew he didn't have a hope of fighting against it. He was still ten years old, not yet fully grown nor did he have the necessary training to fight it. He had begun his lessons not too long ago, and was in no way equipped to take down such a creature by himself, let alone while trying to protect another. Running out of options, Zero ran dozens of possibilities through his head. "If only I had a weapon," he thought to himself right before the large cat jumped onto the same branch the two of them had used to climb up.

Silver eyes widened in shock and Zero immediately stood up, pulling Mukuro to him. "We have to climb as high as we can," he told him. The only advantange they had was their size. They could climb higher than the large cat... for now that's all he could think of as the cat climbed higher.

"But!"

Mukuro glanced at the cat-like monster that was slowly, but surely make it's way towards them. Wouldn't it be able to reach them even if they kept on climbing up? What if there was no more room, then what would they do? They would be cat food if that thing managed to catch them, which seemed like it was only a matter of time. It almost seemed like a hopeless case, unless...

He glanced up at Zero who looked like he was trying to think of every possible way to get them to safety. The older boy had been calling the shots and had taken care of him this whole time. But in their current situation, it seemed like it was his turn to return the favor.

Instead of doing as the other said, Mukuro took a deep breath before staring down at the monster. Glowing yellow met blue and red. The kanji charcter in his right red eye shifted from the Japanese character for the number six to that of the number one, letting his illusionary power come into play. This would be their best shot to get down and out of the forest as fast as they could. And seconds later, he had managed to trap the monster in his illusion.

"Zero-kun, we need to go now! I put it under an illusion and can only hold it for so long," he said, tugging at the other and gesturing to the ground.

Zero didn't question Mukuro's words, instead he focused on getting them away from there as fast as possible, there would be time for questions later, but not now. '

He grabbed Mukuro's hand with his good arm and took off. If nothing else, he was fast for someone his age. Jumping down from branch to branch, they quickly made it down the tree, and as soon as their feet touched the ground, they were running again. Hopefully, the illusion Mukuro had said he'd put the creature under would hold for as long as it took them to get out of the forest.
