Dark eyes returned their gaze back to the other, narrowing very slightly in questioning, as if asking her why she was asking such a question. However, he just mentally shrugged, putting it off as something she was curious about. And if that were the case, then she was probably an only child. Thinking on that tangent reminded him of Naruto and how the blond thought of him as a brother of sorts. At least the other used to, he didn't know if he was still referred to as such ( ... )

She listened quietly to his words, and spent a good moment turning them over in her head before responding. When she did, her own look was distant.

Odd, how they seemed to be resonating on some points. They were not exactly similar, but, perhaps in terms of the circumstances...

"That is a very interesting way of looking at it."

That's the only way I've seen it.

In not so many words, he had just told his childhood before the clan massacre that had been done by the same sibling he still so admired. It had been so many years and so many things had happened to change his opinion, but Itachi had become a constant for him throughout the years even if he hadn't been physically there. And for a time, Naruto had filled in the gap, occasionally still did. But for them the lines blurred too easily.

"If you asked someone else, they would give you a different answer," Sasuke replied, knowing that his relationship with his brother wasn't like others. But that's what made them unique.

"I do not think I would have understood their answers as well as I can see yours."

It was the truth.

And if that were the case, maybe they were more alike than he initially thought. Though Sasuke still believed that she didn't have an actual sibling. Probably someone she considered to be an older sibling figure.

He left out a soft "Hn" before returning his gaze back to the lake.

Chrome fell silent again for a while, having little else to add. Although...

"Have you discovered any way to remove the rings? I have not heard much."

"Not yet. There wouldn't be much of a point if there wasn't at least a clue to work off of."

"Mm... perhaps we should consider what we know now? We may be able to come up with something."

She was really no good with this sort of thing, but Chrome did not want to appear helpless or stupid.

For a moment, Sasuke wondered why she seemed a little adamant about this, wanting to get the ring off. Sure it was a natural thing to want, but with no leads, how would they go about doing this, exactly? It would be a waste of time if in the end they weren't successful.

Would she be willing to continue working until the rings came off?

"Tell me what you think."

"That they are partnered rings must mean that we need to cooperate on something to remove them. Perhaps... we should consider what rings normally mean? Much less partnered rings."

At least it wasn't baseless. There was some merit to what her words could mean and imply. However, that didn't mean that Sasuke had to like what it could possibly imply. Partnered rings, cooperation between two people...

Marriage? It was a little far-fetched but it was a thought and considering what the island could do, it was probably best not to toss the idea away quickly.

He looked at her. "What do you think of marriage."

She flushed visibly, but could not bring herself to back down.

"It's... it is meant to be an intimate relationship. In all senses of the word."

"'Meant to be' but that's not always the case," Sasuke said and he glanced at his ring.

Thoughts of how the old clans conducted marriages came to mind. Though he didn't really care for it, he knew of a few of the clan workings in that regard. After all, there was a time when he wanted to restore his clan after killing Itachi, but with the happenings that occurred after he had done the deed, there just wasn't any time to think about it. But now this.

"Having suddenly being forced to do this, it seems like an arranged marriage to me. Loosely based on that assumption. It's not like we asked for this to happen."

"That is true. How, then, can one remove one's self from the engagement?"

It was, perhaps, a rhetorical question, but maybe, by voicing it out...

"In my clan, it was unheard of," Sasuke replied, the words coming out before he even thought of it. His eyes widened a little before returning to normal as he shook off the slight surprise before resuming. "It depends on circumstances and whether the contract had a loophole for annulment."

But a small part of him couldn't help but think that they were going slightly off course with this thought. Still, it was better than nowhere.

Chrome's brow furrowed in thought as she considered Sasuke's words. There was some sort of missing link there, something that they both were not seeing... she was certain of that. She just did not know what.

"Maybe... we should question the intentions of this partnering in the first place. And remember that there must be something that they want us to do. Together, or with each other."
