I spoke with a rep for Habitat for Humanity; they're happy to take the car as a donation. Will head back up to Boston tomorrow to finalize arrangements from there.

Current plan is to fly down to Orlando some time next week when tickets are cheap, then drive the Jetta up to Mass next weekend.

Heard from shop - car stalled and died while they test-drove it. They're pretty sure it's the engine computer, which requires towing it to a dealership and, if it is another $600-700 in repairs (which I'm sure would be $800 by the time they were done with it). Just called the NJ shop - Hogan Tire put the wrong spark plugs in, causing the engine computer to start throwing error codes and shut itself down. They'll swap the plugs and test drive it tomorrow, and hopefully I can get back on the road. Another $200 for parts and labor, but if it turns a pile of scrap into a working car, it's money well spent ( Read more... )

So, I've spent a great week down here in New Jersey, visiting family and spending time at the beach. My car got myself and my younger brother down just fine on the 15th, and then behaved itself the week+ that I was down here, but then stalled out twice trying to get to the highway, and then lost power and died on the highway as we tried to get ( Read more... )
