Heard from shop - car stalled and died while they test-drove it. They're pretty sure it's the engine computer, which requires towing it to a dealership and, if it is another $600-700 in repairs (which I'm sure would be $800 by the time they were done with it). Now I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth repairing, or if I should just cut my ( Read more... )

My thoughts? Have the dealership give you an estimate, and decide from there. If it's going to be that much, cut your losses and instead of spending the money on something that you'll be sinking more money into to limp along, put it towards something that runs consistently.

There's probably some way to get the place that originally screwed it up to pay for the cost of repair, but what it is I sadly have no clue.

How long have you had this thing? A lot of states have lemon laws, and that may well apply unless it's just plain old.

Got it used in 2005; the car is a 2003 with 62k miles on it. No warranty or lemon law is likely to cover it.

I have a 2003 car (bought in 04) with 38k on it. It's not hard if you're not driving big long distances all the time.
