And to think Hyoga's my favourite character. I actually had an idea once for a long fic in which Isaac would be the one to win Cygnus cloth (can't quite remember why he wasn't dead... oh yes, Camus got in time to save Isaac in fact. A friend of mine wrote the very short beginning and from that we would each write our version). I can't remember if Hyoga died in that, but in each case, if Isaac was alive at the time, I just couldn't see Hyoga winning against him. He was too busy with mourning his mother. And I thought now that is his mother was still alive, he just wouldn't have the same battling spirit at all, so definitely wouldn't win. And believe me, it hurt to write, my poor Swan, broken wings and all :( Or no, Isaac would be the swan even :(
Thank you! With Isaac not dead, I just couldn't see Hyoga winning the cloth at that time, especially not when his mother's around, because he won't have that drive to go off and fight, he doesn't have anything to prove. His mother will always be there, no matter if he wins or loses. And now Isaac has to live with the guilt of having killed a friend instead. Glad you liked it :D
Loved the thingy lots. One of the most emotional of yours, IMO -- you know I'm a sucker for things that start fluffy and harmless and end with a jawdropping twist into unhappy end. :P
As for Hyo, it could be like this for him, or it could be totally other way -- with his mother a living support in everything rather than emotional trauma causing his issues Hyoga could become truly formidable Saint. His wish to make her proud with him could surpass Seiya's drive to win the Cloth so he could find his sister. Or not, of course...those alternative lines are undepletable source for fiction of any kind. Now, if only we had writers to write those out...*sigh*
Oh my. When I started reading it I thought how nice the image of Hyoga and his mother together was. But that last line- Ow. Unexpected and yet very effective. It sure added power to this drabble, ow.
So the take is that Camus had Isaac and Hyoga fight to death and then let the winner try out for the Cygnus Cloth? So sad :( I think I'd rather get Hyoga expelled, or Isaac go for a Silver Cloth and let ducky keep the Bronze one...given that I'm more attached to Isaac than Hyoga, I wonder where all this softness for his fate is coming from.
