Challenge : #8 What if?
Characters : Hyoga, among others
Word count : 231
Note : I had to write this, before someone else did :(
“Today’s the day my son. I’m sure you’ll do just fine!”
“Yes mama.”
The young boy turned to leave the cabin, but returned to face the woman just before he was at the door.
“Mama. I just wanted to tell you how glad I am I found you again, how glad they saved you from that boat.”
The woman came over and hugged her son, tousling his blond hair.
“So am I, Hyoga. Now, off you go.”
The boy slammed the door shut on his way out, he was already late for the last trial, it would not do for him to be late. He started running at a steady pace, and about half an hour later, he arrived at destination. His sensei and Isaac were already waiting for him. He smiled at them, both warmth and pity struggling to get the overhand in his heart. Warmth because he loved them both. Pity because he knew that, unlike him, they had no family, nobody to turn to when things were going rough. He would always have his mama waiting for him, just as she was doing now. He could just imagine her, sitting by the fire, holding her crucifix and saying her prayers for him.
Little did he know that she would wait until morning before someone would bring her the dreadful message that her son was not coming back again.
