Flew the coop

I'm having a hard time finding time to update my LJ lately!  Things have been so hectic between work and moving and getting settled in the new place.  After more stress and drama than I thought possible, we now have a couch and an armchair.  We still need a table, but now at least we have something to sit on, which 500% increases our ability to ( Read more... )

Good for you! Man, I remember moving old couches in and out of apartments and houses. It's so exciting to have your place, yes, and to cook and have people over and feel kinda settled. Good for you. Treat yourself with a night of TV.

TV and messing around online = happy C. ;)

I swear, if couches weren't so wonderful for naps I wouldn't understand why we deal with them. The doors and stairs of my last two apartments were too narrow for anything more than a loveseat or armchair and it's SO NICE to be able to stretch out!

Congratulations on your furniture. It reminds me how lucky we were with ours... They totally need to make doors either wider or expandable.

Our door has an outer door with metal bars on it (I think it's like standard in DC because of all the crime in the 70s and 80s... and 90s) and if we could have just taken THAT thing off it would have helped. But if that thing was easy to remove, the criminals would have a hey day...

Very lucky for you at having less furniture stress!

You'd be proud -- we cooked an actual meal from scratch!

Sushi is ambitious! I bet the key is purchasing high quality fish. I've always scored sushi (I'm a cretin, I know), but I had some pieces of my birthday and they were delish. I may have to readjust my tastes!

lol so how did you finally get the couch through the door? I'm looking for future moving tips -- especially since i'm sure i'll move into a tiny, cheap walk up apartment in the backwaters of brooklyn... lol

yaaaaaaaaaay couch!

Mostly because my boyfriend was determined to get it inside the house. I'd already given up and was thinking ahead to how we could get it back OUT the doorway (where it was stuck) and back into the U-haul before the U-haul place closed, or if we'd have to abandon it... But he kept messing around with it and through amazing contortions got it most of the way through the door, ripped up some of the upholstery on the back, and then shoved it the rest of the way in and did a victory dance. So, it didn't make it unscathed, but at that point -- when our other option was abandonment -- we didn't give a shit.

My advice: loveseats or narrow sofas. If you're moving anywhere with narrow stairs or narrow doors, maybe even just stick with single armchairs or a chaise lounge or something... The problem is that couches are the BEST thing for napping.
