Dawn, Sorry to hear about your troubles with Painter. Sounds like you might have more than software problems. But a quick tip. Save in PSD format. The Painter RIF file corrupts easily for some reason. And check your RAM. Sounds like you might have a memory issue.

Well, I wrote this late last night after the third crash of the hour, so I was steamed, obviously. I don't hate the program - it's fabulous. I just wish it could be made more stable. I would be more tempted to think it was just our system if I hadn't seen acres of forum posts with other people complaining of this same thing

I have a very similar issue with Painter Classic, which I have installed on my Mac. Mac OSX is designed to run in "Classic" mode so that old programs like Painter Classic can run. But Painter manages to make Classic freeze up and need a restart, but since I can't actually tell when Classic has stopped running, I can put down a bunch of strokes before realizing they're not actually being recorded, nothing is working and I have to restart. Open Apple + S is now an involuntary twitch for me. Argh.
It stinks that they haven't improved it in later versions.
