The Visual Story at a Glance: "The Magnificent Seven" (3x01) for spnematography.
There are no spoilers for episodes after 3x01, really. Just an acknowledgement of the existence of the episodes.

It feels good to meta again, and spnematography's Screencap-Meta prompt seems like a great idea, because it more or less forces you to stare at this single shot, catalogue everything in it, take it apart piece by piece. You can't get 'lost', trying to consider the whole episode. Now I just need to watch 3x03 and the following episodes again to find the shots that talk to me the most...
I'm glad that people can find pleasure in the things that come out when I let my brain roam free. :)
Really insightful meta. Your point about the shown being lighter because the time for open war has come is excellent. It made me wonder if maybe there are going to be less underground lairs in this season. I know this is maybe stretching things but I think it's interesting that while Dean leans toward the grave Sam's body is much straight without an obvious lean either way.
Your point about what happens with the three bodies are found is good. Since it's now War I sort of wonder if the pattern of multiple bodies will continue. [spoiler 3.03 - highlight text]So far it does seem to be holding true for demons at least. Since there are the two demons who Sam shot and one would think the bodys would need to burn and bury their bodies [end spoiler]. I would think if the trend does continue it would make law enforcement agencies even more interested. Plus like you pointed out hunters will be dying too which means that if the law enforcement agencies start finding their corpses things could get very sticky for the hunting community

The light-observation came from talking with hugemind, because it bothered me the first time I watched the episode. You see, it's just something new, sort of unexpected... I didn't know what to think about it at first

Great screencap choice *stares* and terrific insights. I love this kind of analysis. :)
The boys can do their job, do this, despite whatever else is going on in their lives. This is what they were brought up to do, to live: the hunt and the destruction of evil supernatural things. And cleaning up their own messes.
I now know it's possible to get vaclempt while reading meta thanks to you. *sniff*
That last line that really struck a cord with me. It seems appropriate this season considering Dean and his suicidal insistence that he sit in the "mess" he created in AHBL-2, refusing to let anyone else take care of it. I have a feeling that Sam is going to run himself into a corner this season, one that won't be easy to get out of and will also be dealing with a "mess" of his own creation (likely with some help from Ruby). And just like Dean, I have a sneaking suspecion that Sam is going to go the same Winchester route ... try to clean it up by himself because, like you said, that's what these boys have been brought up to do.
That screenshot's so beautiful I couldn't ignore it. And after talking with hugemind, it just all clicked, you know?
I now know it's possible to get vaclempt while reading meta thanks to you. *sniff* Um, I'm not sure about that term you used, but... Thanks? *hugs, just in case*
The further the season gets, the farther the boys seem to drift apart, both stubbornly holding onto their own ideas on how to deal with everything that's happened, everything they've already gone through. It's painful to see, dreadful to think where all of it will take them, but...It's them. If they can't drag themselves out of the hole they've dug themselves, who can? I'm hoping that the two of them will realize that the only way they'll survive this year is by holding onto each other, acting like partners again. "I think we should do this together. We're stronger as a family," says Dean to John in Dead Man's Blood (1x20)... but that was so long ago, so many broken dreams ago

Very nice point that the grave is a shallow, murderer's/epidemic grave. *shudders*
I thought I didn't like the lighting choices they are making in Season 3, but the idea that now all their actions are "out in the open," that the world is at war, and not just hunters hunting, makes sense with the bright lighting.
My brain just kept on insisting that 'shallow grave' is a figure of speech or something, and then I ran across the idea that people in a hurry (fleeing from danger; murderers maybe, too) dig them. And mass graves are most often found in the aftermath of wars/battles, epidemics, natural disasters. And then it was downhill from there. :)
S3's been really bright, compared to S1 and S2. This is the way I can accept it. And Sam, the very same Sam who still in S2 didn't have a habit of carrying a gun about his person at all times, seems to go around armed as well as his brother these days. The boys are keenly aware of where they stand, careful around officers of the law, mindful of the possible danger around every corner now.

'Murderer's grave'. That just gives me the creeps and makes me sad. And it's so true.
The war is now - it's going to be ugly.

Murderer's grave, indeed. Even if the boys weren't the ones to kill these specific poor bastards, in the eyes of the law, they might have as well.
Frankly, with the pace S3 has kept up so far, I'm worried about what the final death toll will be...
