So, the Oscar nominees were announced today.  WALL-E got a bunch of nominations, all of them fairly pointless except for Best Original Screenplay and Best Animated Film.  That last one is only semi-pointless.  Dark Knight also mostly got pointless nominations, except for the Heath Ledger thing, which everybody knew was going to happen.  I'm ( Read more... )

I'm just going to say that it's very rare for the academy to get the animation category right -_-; (Usually likewise with best song.)

Really? The only winners I find questionable are 2005 and 2001. I can't comment on 2003, as I haven't seen any of the movies in question, though. But I do think Monsters, Inc deserved to beat Shrek and Howl's Moving Castle deserved to beat Wallace and Gromit, and I wish that had happened. I'm pleased with Happy Feet, Spirited Away, Ratatouille, and The Incredibles, though. As for Best Song, yeah, I'd have to agree for the most part, with the exceptions of Once(I'm still thrilled it got Best Song) last year, Randy Newman, and every Disney Film that's won it. I also haven't seen a lot of the musicals that have won it, too, or they may be on that list.

Kung Fu Panda was actually super cute. I generally roll my eyes at things involving Jack Black or Angelina Jolie, but I actually liked that movie. However, Oscar material? That I'm not so sure about.

WALL-E is pretty fantastic though, and I'm glad to hear it got those nominations. Even if it doesn't win, the fact that it was suggested for it is enough for me.

My Dad's fond of Angelina Jolie, and I liked School of Rock, but for the most part I completely agree with you about those two actors. ^^; Maybe I'll watch it at some point. I've heard it's much better than it sounds, and you liking it is encouraging.

Yep, Disney was pushing hard to get WALL-E nominated for Best Film, but I don't even know if it made it onto the short list. Ah, well. It probably will win Best Animated Feature, and it deserves something at least. ^_^
