gotta start somewhere, I suppose!

Just so that people I've told I've created this account won't come looking and see an entirely blank space, I've decided to write today about Bugs ( Read more... )

There's a dead weta (WHEAT-a) dangling from a spider web in the bathroom. These are, in my view, a peculiarly nauseating class of arthropod. Even the cats are terrified of them.

There are wetas in Australia? I thought they were a NZ specialty. Live and learn.

There are, however, no kangaroos in the district.

That's because they don't have exoskeletons, you know. If they came in nifty black armour, you'd be able to pretty much guarantee a plague of 'em. Can you imagine a plague of six foot tall chitin-wearing roos? You'd be longing nostalgically for the wetas and redbacks, I just bet.

Now there's a thought.

If roos, wallabies or other fuzzy creatures whose existence once assaulted the equanaimity of our northern friends should develop shells and begin lurking under the loose bark of the manna gums or dangling from my ceiling, then there's my cat food bill problem sorted, muahahaha!

Despite the weta connection to both LotR and my place of work, I do think they are repulsive beasts. We have something similar (smaller version) infesting our basement -- camelback crickets. But wetas are the worst. *Euugh.*

There was a huge cricket plague here back in about 1966. I feel for your pain!

Wetas, mantii, redbacks. Ok, maybe I am staying on the Northern hemisphere then.

Jeez.

I kinda thought lamingtons, pavs and timtams in the light of rattlers, black widows and poison ivy would leave us ahead down here.

OK, throw in a mardi gras.

I've been trying to attract him here with Mardi Gras as well. =)

I'm reading your journal because you're one of the handful of Australians who list polyamory as an interest. I've just moved back here and I'm looking for community. I have a whole bunch of friends who respect all sorts of relationships, so it seems there's less need for a "poly community" here, but I'd love to create some new circles of friends and maybe get a few people together to create the beginnings of a political movement. Anyhow, it seems we have a lot of LJ friends in common, including one or two of my lovers. It's a small world! =)

Anyhow, I hope you don't mind that I've added you to my friends list. (Some people prefer to be asked, apparently.)

It's a tiny world, apparently.

There's a discussion on alt.polyamory right now about the Aussie posters (of whom I am one)meeting up, probably in Melbourne(near where I live). I'm hoping for late July, early August
although one person maybe can't make it then.
