It was luck, or perhaps fate, that left the door unlocked and Dai absent when Kaito arrived at Ryou’s doorstep. He didn’t knock, because Ryou was an asshole and a pervert - he didn’t deserve to know when people were coming into his house. It was then that Kaito realised he’d never actually entered Ryou’s house conscious before. He retraced his steps from the first time he’d left, and found Ryou still bedridden and apparently on a liquid diet, if his sunken cheeks were any indication. He looked unspeakably bored.
“Ryou,” said Kaito from the doorstep. He realised he’d never said that name out loud before - that on a whole this was a tragically uncomfortable experience and had most likely been a bad idea from the start. But he was already standing there, and Ryou had already seen him. He took a cautious step into the room, not wanting to be any further in this awful place than he needed to be, and dropped a long, thin, pen-like object on Ryou’s stomach.
Ryou frowned. “What is this?”
“It’s a quellazaire.”
This did not appear to explain anything to Ryou. Kaito sighed. “It’s a cigarette holder.”
“Oh,” Ryou picked it up and examined it. “Why did you bring it here?”
“It’s for you,” Kaito explained. “I stole it.”
Ryou warily put his cigarette into the end of it and tested it. It seemed to work fine. “Why?” He asked.
“You always smoke. I’ve never seen anyone smoke as much as you,” Kaito looked up at him with deep wrinkles in his forehead. “You have a broken jaw and you’re smoking right now.”
Ryou didn’t appear any less confused than he had been when the item had first fallen onto his stomach, but he didn’t ask any more questions.
“Thanks.”
“I’m gonna go now,” Kaito said, following the increasingly familiar path out of the house. It was over before it started. He stood outside and wondered what the fuck had just happened.
