“I swear, whatever I did to her, I didn’t mean to-”
“Whatever you what?” Ski whirled round to find her sister; the baby, a toothless grin splitting her chubby cheeks, held at arm's length.
“She squeaked.” said Lyssa, eyeing the child as if, at any moment, she might explode.
“Squeaked?”
“I just looked at her.” Lyssa turned Mara around and crossed her eyes at her tiny nose. A piercing, violent hiccup of a sound erupted from the girl.
“I… think she’s laughing,” said Ski.
Lyssa stuck out her tongue, eliciting another squeal, and the two laughed as well.
