I read something interesting today.

We all hear the word frum (Yiddish "pious") comes from Frankish (old German) and ultimately from Provençal.

Well, some hold it comes from Efraim, the learning one in the Efraim/Menashe duet. Interesting, no? Though Provençal is much more likely linguistically speaking...

So stressed about Mati's starting school. Just as if it was mine!  Today was Mati's first day at gan (gan aleph, not even pre-gan!). Yup I actually got up to bring her ;)

I would describe the setting as yeshivish. The primary school is called the cheder. It's mixed until grade 3, it is a rarity to find a school where they separate so early. It's in a community center and it just takes 15 mins to go there.

Good article in Jewish names on page 5... except when he starts saying Fatima was never used among Arabic Jews and Paul and Mary weren't used among European Jews.
Just check tehillim for all the Fatima, and check all the frum people named Paul/o/a (for Shaul/a) and Mary/ia/ie (for Miriam/Mirel/Merle).
