Flonne - Disgaea anonymous February 19 2010, 14:25:10 UTC
Not exactly sure on when I'll be taking her from just yet, but probably around the middle of the first game. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!

Flonne is impossibly optimistic and happy. In her world, there are no bad people; just people who don't know any better. She is also something of a geek what with the whole love of superheroes and ninjas and the like.

However, she is willing to use force to get people see the power of love. Note that displays of love and to a lesser extent justice is likely to get Flonne all riled up like a fangirl. "THIS IS THE TRUE POWER OF LOVE!"

Flonne is also pretty empathetic when it comes to other people and easily feels sorry for others; but when it comes to herself it's a bit different. She put up with Laharl's insults for awhile until she finally had enough and sternly lectured him about not using her name. Thus she generally does "turn the other cheek" unless it's done enough for her to decide to assert herself in calm but stern fashion.

Also, do not call her flat-chested.

Remember that a big point of Disgaea is that there is not so much of a difference between angels and demons. Flonne has the potential to be every bit as violent and lazy as a demon. Many Flonnes out there seem to make her a basic good two-shoes, which she is, but if you play this entirely straight you miss the point and lose a lot of chances for humor.

BA'AL - STARGATE SG-1 anonymous February 19 2010, 14:25:47 UTC
I'll admit to only having seen up to and including the ninth season (at present), but I love him. Anything at all is appreciated. One thing in particular I'm unsure about still is how to deal with interaction with random, ordinary multifandom characters, per se. Still working on fine tuning that stuff.
But again, anything at all is seriously appreciated.

I'll... just not bother doing this anon. First off, FUCK YEAH BA'AL. WE NEED MORE BA'ALS IN THIS FANDOM. *cough ( ... )

why did I keysmash so much at this IT DOES I am pretty sure you are the only one I've seen actively played anywhere, haha.

First of all, I will thank you so much for the advice, because I definitely feel like I can use absolutely any of it, at this point.

Honestly, I am very worried about how I'll be able to portray him, especially as I am not really good as a person with charisma or using people, so. Makes it a little harder to write, at times - that and I don't think I'm smart enough for him, haha. But regardless, I guess the best approach to the average person would be to act fairly... normal, and to just adapt his behaviour based on who he's interacting with?
I kind of wish I could play with the whole symbiotic/god/etc aspect because it'd be fun. But he's Ba'al, so that makes it less likely.I did try tracing the deities, actually! Fairly hard to do, if only because of how many there are and the ambiguous naming et al. I read a fair bit on Hadad in particular. Are there any others you might recommend for looking at...? And I'll ( ... )

It's very sad to have just one Ba'al. You would expect at least two. A pair of Ba'als. okay, I'll stop.

Yeah, have him act disturbingly normal and friendly. Friendly yet selfish. Rejection by average people probably wouldn't bother him... so if he's met with hostility he'll just smile and nod. And have a back up plan in case they try to attack him. Anyway, yes. He'd adapt to what he thinks they want to hear.

This wiki has a good list. Ba'alzebub/Be'elzebub is a good place to look since there is always so much on demonic dudes. I know that one of the cults related to Ba'al made a habit of scarifying their first born children in fire. What is also interesting is Moloc, there is evidence to suggest that he is the same deity as Ba'al BUT in SG-1 they had another snake playing Moloc. Now, this is just speculation on my part, but I believe the goa'uld Moloc to be the offspring of goa'uld Ba'al. Ba'al awarded one of his many names and section of followers to him. Again this is just fanon on my part ( ... )

This isn't a whole personality overview, but-remember that she's not nearly as good at scheming as she thinks she is. She gets by on charm and manipulation, which she's very good at, but all of her fiendish plots are needlessly complicated, and she always trips up somehow. Which is partly because of the way the game is set up, since Phoenix or Mia has to unravel her plans, but really good Machiavellian schemers are better than she is. At the same time, even when holes in her logic seem to screw her, she will never give up until she has no choice, and will use her skills in manipulation to get people to believe in her until the bitter end. Just look how many times she resorts to the "oh poor delicate me" defense and it works.

A few memes ago, someone else mentioned that she seems to have a real problem with older people/getting older in general, which I thought was interesting.

Anon is tired and unable to properly comment, but a response to this will come after I sleep! Consider this a placeholder and something to hold me to.

being anon irritates me, but here is my attempt at helping! I have no idea how good my Sharon is, but I will try anyway. /was above anon

Alright so! The issue that I find to be greatest with Sharon is particularly the language that is used when she's being played. Considering the era, her upbringing, and a number of other things, Sharon has a far more refined manner of speech in comparison to what's typical. As opposed to saying "What?" when she doesn't understand something, she's more likely to use "I beg your pardon?" It may seem like a very small jump, but I found that it gives her more of an elegant portrayal when you're able to properly convey her messages in.... more of an upper-class language? For lack of any better description. She's very proper and polite, and often very precise, unless she's given reason to be vague. The only time that she really relaxes in her way of speaking is when she's either reprimanding someone (and even there, that's a very small change), or when she's with Break ( ... )

Then there is her relationship with her 'little sister'. That's a bit trickier and often not as simple as most people make it out to be. When it comes to Alice, Sharon is doting and loving. There doesn't seem to be any sense of reserve there, as she fantasizes of spending a day with her dear Alice and teaching her many things. However Sharon isn't going to glomp the girl on sight, because that would simply be improper. Grabbing hands and generally giddy, girlish gestures is the way to go. (Ah, and for the record, Alice also falls in the 'friends' category. She's just special because she's cute and adorable.) But while I'm here, I might as well address fangirl!Sharon too. Sharon when she flips that switch and goes fangirly is sliiiightly tricky. You can apply your own tastes for the fandom there, look for any 'fandom shipping' or 'that was so adorable a;sldfjasdf' moments and express them in the most eloquent language you can. If you go off on a tangent and add flowery language, that's even better. However that's only alright when ( ... )
