why did I keysmash so much at this IT DOES I am pretty sure you are the only one I've seen actively played anywhere, haha.
First of all, I will thank you so much for the advice, because I definitely feel like I can use absolutely any of it, at this point.
Honestly, I am very worried about how I'll be able to portray him, especially as I am not really good as a person with charisma or using people, so. Makes it a little harder to write, at times - that and I don't think I'm smart enough for him, haha. But regardless, I guess the best approach to the average person would be to act fairly... normal, and to just adapt his behaviour based on who he's interacting with? I kind of wish I could play with the whole symbiotic/god/etc aspect because it'd be fun. But he's Ba'al, so that makes it less likely.
I did try tracing the deities, actually! Fairly hard to do, if only because of how many there are and the ambiguous naming et al. I read a fair bit on Hadad in particular. Are there any others you might recommend for looking at...? And I'll probably have to take a look at that book, too - it's relatively cheap to buy, though it looks like shipping will be stupid.
Yeah, you see some hints of that in season nine, too (and I can't wait to get to Continuum, it's just my scheduling for watching is slow, sometimes). I'd likely be taking him from the later seasons because of all of that adaptation/development.
Is there anything else you might be able to help with? It's seriously hugely appreciated.
It's very sad to have just one Ba'al. You would expect at least two. A pair of Ba'als. okay, I'll stop.
Yeah, have him act disturbingly normal and friendly. Friendly yet selfish. Rejection by average people probably wouldn't bother him... so if he's met with hostility he'll just smile and nod. And have a back up plan in case they try to attack him. Anyway, yes. He'd adapt to what he thinks they want to hear.
This wiki has a good list. Ba'alzebub/Be'elzebub is a good place to look since there is always so much on demonic dudes. I know that one of the cults related to Ba'al made a habit of scarifying their first born children in fire. What is also interesting is Moloc, there is evidence to suggest that he is the same deity as Ba'al BUT in SG-1 they had another snake playing Moloc. Now, this is just speculation on my part, but I believe the goa'uld Moloc to be the offspring of goa'uld Ba'al. Ba'al awarded one of his many names and section of followers to him. Again this is just fanon on my part.
Continuum offers some great insight into his personality. Without spoiling it all to hell... It shows how much he really did like/love Qetesh. As much as a guy like him can. His sort of love is like an over-protective husband who never lets you out of the house or his sight. I play him as truly in love with Qetesh. Even if it's a love/hate... but for him, that's what makes it fun. And Vala... he knows she retains part of Qetesh, and he sees no problem in extending a sort of perverted attraction to her. But he isn't a fool either. Then we have Adria. Not only does she carry power on her own but she is the daughter of his Queen's host. So... yeah... when you get to season 10.
I wrote a chunk on his personality for the app I did for him. One of the things I touched on there was him and torture. The big thing I noticed about him is that he's good at interrogation and torture. He knows how to build a report with his prisoners. He'll speak "honestly" with them and reward them. He'll do everything in his power to convince them he is on their side. This is something I spent some time on given the nature of the place I was putting him.
I can't think of anything else to add at the moment but I hope that helps.
Yeah, I don't see him getting mad over it - if for some reason he was set on getting them on his side he might be persistent/have an alternative method/whatever, but. But all right, thanks!
That link will definitely help, as well as that direction - and that's a pretty interesting theory about Moloc, actually. I mean, it certainly seems plausible, if nothing else.
Ahhh I am looking forward to season 10 and Continuum a lot (starting 10 tomorrow night), especially for the Ba'al development. I have to say you're making me even more interested, haha. It'll be interesting to say.
That's true - I re-watched Abyss recently, and he definitely does act like he and Jack are both on the same side (at least in the way he talks and all), and that they're both victims, right? And yeah, that'll probably be pretty important sorts of stuff for me, too.
It really does help, thank you so much. I mean, I wasn't even 100% sure I was going to get anything - so yeah. Infinitely grateful.

As much as I love playing Ba'al, I really want to see more people give him a try. I hope you get handle on him!
...heh...handle on Ba'als.
Uh, yeah I better go before I make more puns.

Thank you, seriously! It helped, for sure - now I've got my eye on the Ba'al? Uh.
