Who: Cedric and Sonic (and someone else, but does it count if they're totally unconscious?) What: Cedric's got some unsavory plans. When: Sometime on Friday Where: The "demon cave."
"How do you defend yourself against something like that? We were knocking people unconscious, he killed her. She was dead the second he knew where she was." Talking about it was not calming him down, it was just putting him right back in the moment, dragging Ginny to the window and listening to her whimper. "Maybe you can't hurt him for it, but I knew her, and I can." And that was enough of the talking. Cedric made another go to get past Sonic and shot a hit of raw Magic in front of him, aimed at Kale.
Sonic followed Cedric's motion, moving in just a heartbeat's space of time behind him. He hadn't been expecting the magical assault.
It glanced off of him, through him, and Sonic wouldn't know whether it was the pain or just the pure force of the magic, but suddenly he was on his side on the cave floor.
The next moment went by in a flash. Sonic found himself back in the Kingstown prison, facing a dead-eyed Cedric and listening to him explain how he was going to take credit for Arlen's murder. "He shouldn't have to pay the price for something I was more than willing to do."
Sonic's eyes snapped open, and while the pain hadn't disappeared it had somehow sharpened, honed into a focused point by his sudden clarity. Uh-uh. No way. Cedric had come too close to becoming a killer already. He wasn't going to let it happen now, especially if he was there to stop it.
"Not happening today, Ced." His tone had taken on a harder edge. He didn't stand yet. He didn't need to. Also, ow.
Cedric stared down at Sonic. On the one hand, his insides were in turmoil, concern for someone who didn't deserve to be hurt but he'd gone ahead and hurt anyway - he was just like him, then, wasn't he? Bringing pain to people who didn't deserve it. That didn't mean he could stop, though. Sonic was innocent, that demon was not. "I don't want to hurt you..." Cedric whispered. 'I don't want to hurt you, but I won't stop.'
"Whadda you know. The feeling's mutual." Sonic already knew, to his chagrin, that he wasn't faster than magic. If Cedric made another move, he might not be able to stop Kale from being hurt unless he stopped Cedric physically. But until that happened...
Sonic moved, wincing a bit as he did, but moving all the same. He didn't stand all the way, but rather put himself into one of the positions Lhoral had taught him. A crouch. He was relaxed. Ready to move at any second.
"So before we both do something we don't wanna do, let's talk." Sonic didn't betray on his face that he was searching for something to say, but he did pause for a second. He was still thinking about the prison, and that's where he found his answer. "You told me once you didn't have anything good left in you. I think you're wrong. I still do."
He stayed still, waiting. Watching. "Don't do this."
"I knew her brothers. They were my friends. I should have taken care of her, and I didn't, and she died. She died because he killed her, and I can't just turn around and leave." He couldn't, he wouldn't be able to stop himself. "I don't want to go through you, but I will if I have to." Cedric wasn't actually sure he could. He didn't want to be tested. It sounded good enough, though.
