Sunday Artz

May 28, 2017 19:29

It occurs to me that I have not only hardly been online the past week or so, I am also being distinctly uncreative. No writing, and the only art is the stuff I am doing at the art club. Yay for me deciding to go to a club - I knew it would make me at least do something. Even if this week's effort is a bit lacklustre.

I love doorways (e.g. John Ford's The Searchers) and to my untrained eye I thought this looked rather good! *I* liked it, anyway.

Thank you! Know it isn't amazing but didn't think it was quite as bad as she thought lol. Don't know if I have ever seen The Searchers (folks might have watched it when I was a kid) so had to google the door reference. Fascinating cinematography. Is it worth watching?

Worth watching?

Is chocolate worth eating!!! (Now you're going to tell me you don't like chocolate..) IMHO the Searchers is one of the finest Westerns ever made, if not *the* finest, up there with She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Shane, My Darling Clementine, High Noon etc. So yes, it's definitely worth watching and has, like most classic Westerns, a beautiful film score.

'Tis okay, I love chocolate. However *whispers guiltily* not a huge fan of westerns. Blame the grandparents watching them endlessly and trying to brainwash me into liking them (so me, being me, perversely did the opposite). Will make a concerted effort to watch The Searchers then the next time I spot it on telly :)

I like the doorway a lot! I don't think the foliage is unrealistic at all.

Phew! It's hard to judge myself. Problem is everyone at the art club says everything is fantastic - but they say that to everyone no matter whether they are complete beginners or not (I found myself doing it, too, to be supportive of someone who was drawing for the first time) so it's hard to know if something is a disaster or not. Best mate lacks the tact gene which doesn't help lol.

Love your busts to decorate!! How fabulous :D The fox is amazing.
When I saw your door I thought it was gorgeous!! Surely first impressions matter? *stares and wonders about the foliage and door* Nope, it's still gorgeous :D

Have discovered a similar bust to the fox on eBay, but it's a ram/goat/evil looking thing with big curly horns. Lacks Mr Fox's distinction. He needs a name, he really does. Hmm.

Yay for positive feedback on art when it has been shot down in critical flames :)

Yikes for best friend's comments but (because comments weren't aimed at me) I had to lol as well. Still, if she ever does compliment you, you at least know she means it.
Personally I rather like it, it looks cute and I love that particular shade of green.

Wouldn't be too sure about the 'complimenting' thing. Think she is tactless with her critiques...the compliments are worse, they are always the double edged ones. The classic 'you're looking better today', the 'that top doesn't make you look as fat', and not forgetting 'you were needing your hair cut'. She doesn't do well with praise...mind you, it's probably a Scottish thing. We get the urge to actually pay someone a compliment drummed out of us as children...and, ye gods, if you even dare to 'accept' a compliment. *g*
