Ooooh! I actually quite enjoyed the Ritchie Holmes film, and I could see that style working rather well for Pimpernel. So long as they don't shortchange Marguerite, I will be content.
Although I cannot imagine a better Percy than Anthony Andrews.
I definitely see what people love about the Ritchie film and I did like it on a certain level, but there were a couple things in it that bothered me just a bit too much.
And I completely agree on Marguerite. I haven't found a reference yet as to casting...
I adored the Holmes-Watson relationship and I loved that they didn't dumb down Watson. I did not, however, like what they did with Irene Adler, and I thought the main plot was hopelessly silly. But it was good fun all the same.
I must admit I'm sort of surprised there hasn't been casting news about Marguerite. I would think she's the sort of role all kinds of actresses would love to play (I certainly would!). I'd be curious to see, though, if they actually chose someone French. It would make a nice change, just because Marguerite ought to sound different from everyone around her, at least I think so.
I'm frightened that saying it aloud will jinx it, but I feel confident that the end of 2011 will find me with a publishing contract.
If so, it's in not small part to your support, darling.
And I'm *really* looking forward to the new improved Ghita!
Happy to send you the new version if you want it, but don't feel obligated. There will be many revisions over the next months, publication or no, so feel free to take a break from her.
I like Ghita. I'd love to see another revision or two - I'll leave it to you to decide which revisions I'd be most helpful / interested in.
And no, let's not jinx you. I want to see your books in print for the completely selfish goal of being able to point at your books and tell people "that's my famous friend!".
The revision I'm about to finish is only minorly different from what you read, so I won't send it to you. I'll waiting mostly to see what response I get at the conference and what revisions that entails, either through acceptance or rejection. We can hopefully play it from there.
Oh, do you what is saddest about this announcement? I don't actually care! I think I must have exhausted my Pimpernel groove, because I can't even be bothered with fantasy casting the roles. And they'll never get Marguerite right.
But it's great that there's life in the old dog yet.

I'll be on tenterhooks until they announced something re: Margot. I'm even tempted to get an IMDbPro account so I can keep track of things properly.

Selfishly, I vote for more Percy. But that's just me.

If the movie's even one-quarter-decent, it will breed a whole new generation of Pimpernel fans, ie: possible readers for my book.
It happened with Richard E. Grant...

But either way, rest assured that it will be finished and you will be one of its first readers.
