Mostly to pass on some news from fadeintodawn in demmed_elusive. There is apparently a new adaptation of Pimpernel in the works. They're looking to do for Pimpernel what Guy Ritchie did for Sherlock Holmes ( Read more... )

Ooooh! I actually quite enjoyed the Ritchie Holmes film, and I could see that style working rather well for Pimpernel. So long as they don't shortchange Marguerite, I will be content.

Although I cannot imagine a better Percy than Anthony Andrews.

I'm a fellow Andrews fan. Just love him.

I definitely see what people love about the Ritchie film and I did like it on a certain level, but there were a couple things in it that bothered me just a bit too much.

And I completely agree on Marguerite. I haven't found a reference yet as to casting...

I adored the Holmes-Watson relationship and I loved that they didn't dumb down Watson. I did not, however, like what they did with Irene Adler, and I thought the main plot was hopelessly silly. But it was good fun all the same.

I must admit I'm sort of surprised there hasn't been casting news about Marguerite. I would think she's the sort of role all kinds of actresses would love to play (I certainly would!). I'd be curious to see, though, if they actually chose someone French. It would make a nice change, just because Marguerite ought to sound different from everyone around her, at least I think so.

I'm reminded of Elizabeth McGovern supposedly bragging about perfecting her English accent. *headdesk*

I'll be on tenterhooks until they announced something re: Margot. I'm even tempted to get an IMDbPro account so I can keep track of things properly.

Oh, ouch. I did not like her Marguerite at all. I found her to be whiny and self-righteous. Then again, I only ever watched that miniseries once and have never looked back. Much as I've enjoyed Richard Grant in other things, he was just wrong for Percy. You need someone who can laugh at himself, and his Percy clearly could not.

I think this hits one what I didn't like about that miniseries. That, and the fact that in Orczy's books, Percy never took a life, where in that miniseries he killed with impunity.

YES. That distressed me so much. Although what made me stop watching was when they killed off Tony Dewhurst and Percy didn't even bat an eyelash.
