I have a present. It's angst.
This fic is for Life, a fabulous show that you should be watching. All eleven season one episodes are available in the US through online streaming
here. I
wrote a brief explanation about the show premise a few months ago, mostly because I wanted to post pictures of Damian Lewis.

Yeah, I agree, the zen thing is vaguely reminiscent of Leoben. Charlie does use words in a similar way at times--to disconcert people, to reveal things they don't want to know. Sometimes I think he really can't shut up, though.
My main hook into the show (other than Damian Lewis flirting with me through my tv screen) is probably the male-female buddy cop aspect. I never really thought about it, but apparently I have a big weakness for that. If you gave the show a try, I'm guessing you'd really like Charlie's partner, Dani. She's tiny, fierce, messed-up and does her job well in spite of everything. (icon is a pic of Dani)

I've already told you in email a bunch of the specific things I like about this fic, but other things that occurred to me that I liked as I read it through again were the contrast between French and Spanish - the former associated with childhood and innocence, and the latter associated with the grittiness of the streets. But Charlie uses both in a high social way. And, as I said before, I liked the use of language as a theme all the way through, as well as the payoff of the theme when you get to the part - Connie fences with words--French and Latin at first, the languages of the court. It parallels the arc of the story symbolically - how Charlie has gone from being a very active, engaged person before he was framed (the roguish, manic way he uses French and Spanish with women) to a much more passive person (sitting in solitary ( ... )

I was surprised that the show's creators showed nary a one on Crews' entire upper body, during the 1st season. At least none that I noticed...nor any tattoos.
Yup, that was a big flub, I agree. Oops. *g*

His watch can't turn back time and bring his mother to him.
This part did make me go, "Aww," out loud. Wnen you don't know the canon little bits like that are a surprise.

I'd feel sorry for him but he doesn't seem like someone who would appreciate the woobie.
Yeah, I don't think he'd have much patience for it. The (very) few people that he lets in close don't pity him. I'm guessing that's part of why they're allowed that closeness.
