I never have had a thing for red-heads. First crush: blond boy with green eyes. Second: blond boy, blue eyes. Eventually I moved on to dark-haired men as well, but redheads? I can't think of any, from real life or celebrity crushes. That has apparently changed. I blame Damian Lewis.
This is Damian Lewis.
He's British. He's been in... stuff. Stuff I've never watched (Band of Brothers, The Forsyte Saga). I know nothing about him, but I think I could develop a massive crush on the character he plays on NBC's Life.
'Life' isn't the best cop show ever, but for a new show, it's not doing too badly. Lewis plays Charlie Crews, a cop who was convicted of murder. He served twelve years of his sentence before he was freed, exonerated and given a hefty settlement and a job as a detective in the LAPD. The dialogue is pretty good, and Crews and his partner Dani Reese (played by Sarah Shahi) have a nice chemistry so far.

I knew the basics of the show's premise before the first episode, so I was surprised at how Crews was portrayed. Instead of a gruff, cynical character, Crews has a very open outlook, with "zen-ish" traits, a prison-gang style of justice and a quick assessment of character.
What else? The word 'quirky' has been used a lot in describing Crews. I'm not sure that's the right fit, but I can't think of a better word.
In addition to the plot of the week, Crews is working to find out why he was framed for murder. Here's the wall o' suspicion in his home.
Also, Crews has an old prison buddy in charge of his money... which is an unusual choice, considering the man was convicted of embezzlement. Heh. He's played by the always-reliable Adam Arkin.
It's stunning that I have an interest in a cop show featuring a quirky male partnered with a pragmatic female. So original of me. *g* Ah well.
eta: I don't think I would feel compelled to post pictures of Damian Lewis except that he has that onscreen charisma--it's not really appearance as much as it is magnetism. So if you're looking at these pictures thinking "huh?"--that would've been my reaction before the first couple of episodes of 'Life.'
And... that's about it. Except one more pic of Damian Lewis, just for the heck of it.
Wednesday nights. NBC. I'll be watching online the next day. Or maybe I'll buy the season pass through Amazon Unbox. I'm actually tempted by that.
