Looper

I kept reading (and hearing) that Looper was a really good sci-fi movie. This, of course, made me a bit sceptic, because usually when this happens and I'm expecting to see a good movie it turns out to be disappointing (expectations too high & all that). However, not this time. Looper tackles time travel in a very down to earth way, but still ( Read more... )

But in the Hunger Games, it's really kind of the point that Katniss has no time for your hearteyeing, SHE HAS A SISTER AND MOTHER TO TAKE CARE OF/SAVE

I love how they dealt with non-romance in THG and people insist on shipping and I'm just like NO, PRIORITIES PEOPLE.

Also, you can say whatever you want about Bella, but she does take charge of things. Like, all the Twilight books are basically Bella doing shit/making decisions Edward doesn't agree with.
(I mean there's plenty to critise about re:Twilight, so at least complain about something that's true!)

Well I agree that Katniss isn't exactly the one pursuing a relationship (as in absolutely not), but then there's the guy in the district which seems to have feelings for her and Peeta of course who in the end (one way or another) gets close to her. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if the story continues on this.

Can't say what happens in the books, but I all I get from the Twilight movies (specifically the second one) is Bella not being able to be with Edward and just sits there being miserable, ignoring her dad who tries to reason with her and goes on this self destructive motorcycle drive. You could argue that her "actions" have an effect on Edward, but they're hardly constructive. However, I'm the first to say I'm not an expert on the Twilight matter, but this is the impression I got from what I saw & heard.

Bella does what she wants to get what she wants (and she gets it all)! Doesn't matter if it all concerns a guy!

Mostly I'm just confused why you have to make that ref because all Twilight and THG have in common is a female protagonist, and none of your other reviews get any refs. or even get characters commented on. Anyway. I read all the books this involves and I disagree. xD

Fair enough.
I guess I felt I had to make that reference because I thought Katniss is a much better rolemodel than Bella is, and since both movies are both aimed at a younger audience this idea prolly slipped in.
Perhaps next year I'll comment more on the characters involved in my list, I just hadn't given it much thought.

Chronicle was so good! A real surprise. Hadn't been expecting a ton, but it delivered with some heartbreaking moments. An interesting look at how getting superpowers will screw up all but the most well-balanced people. Props also for the massive Akira nod.

I do believe there have been action films that were a. good and b. featured strong women. I won't bother you with weird personal preferences like Resident Evil, but how about Kill Bill or Silence of the Lambs? Or Terminator, though that might fall into the 80s category alongside Alien(s)(3)(Resurrection). Prometheus. Damn, Prometheus was fine.

lol, I find the RE movies a bit of a guilty pleasure, but that's just my opinion. ;) I agree with your other examples though. Still makes up for a very short list however.. I do hope that will change in the nearby future.

Guilty pleasure is the correct term. I hope they keep make RE movies forever, they're so much schlocky fun!

Very soon we will get to see Silent Hill: Revelation in cinema, which will have Heather as the main character. Looking forward to that!
