► What a miserable day. The weather network says the temperature outside is 20 degrees (68 Fahrenheit) but that doesn't help inside the apartment, which feels like a sweat box. I really don't like summer.
To be honest, the heat and humidity probably wouldn't have bothered me as much if I didn't feel so sick all day. Fatigue, body aches, stomach pains, and finally the trots. Right now I feel worn out.
On the plus side, I realized today that my left hand hasn't been bothering me the past couple of days. So that's good.
► Ebay is tough. I had bids on several drawings that ended today (if something became priced out of my affordability I'd bid on something else). Through the course of the day I lost auctions for 3 full sized 11" x 17" drawings, and 4 sketch cards. The
Ms. Marvel drawing I was so enthusiastic and hopeful about getting ultimately
sold for $104.50. Almost twice my $53.67 final bid. I guess deep pockets help.
All was not lost, however. I may not have won the drawing and sketch cards I most wanted, but I did win
a nice 2.5" x 3.5" Batgirl lingerie sketch card for $8, and a beautiful and
sexy 11" x 17" drawing of Marvel Comics' jungle superheroine Shanna (drawn by
Carlos Silva, the same artist as the above
Ms. Marvel piece). I was the lone bidder on that drawing since Tuesday until it started getting some notice yesterday. All day today the price stood at $14.50, until 45 minutes before it ended when someone bid raising the price to $20. Ten minutes later that same person bid 6 more times, in $1 increments, eventually jacking the auction up to $26, which is what I won it at. The funny thing is my max bid was only $27.67, so he could have easily gotten it if he was just a little more determined.
I kept thinking the timing and raising the price incrementally was suspicious (forcing up the price on the highest bidder with no intention of buying) but
John assures me that's most likely not the case. Just my cynicism I guess.
Here are my winnings (the
Batgirl sketch card by Wynn Ryder, and
Shanna by Carlos Silva):

Still wish I won that Ms. Marvel drawing, though. Ah well.
► When I went into the weekend, I had given myself a ballpark of $120 to spend on the Ebay auctions. Ultimately I spent $38 of that. Conventional reason would dictate that I should save the rest of the money and move on. I am not conventionally reasonable. As such, I have my eye on a couple of auctions that are still going. Two in particular I'm really keen on winning. One is an auction for
an 8.5" by 11" Batgirl watercolour drawing that ends tomorrow night, and the other is
a 9" x 12" Mera underwater seascape drawing (the later is from the same seller as the previously mentioned Ms. Marvel and Shanna drawings).
The
Mera drawing I think I can win low, since she's not as famous a character and it's not really a cheesecake picture (being more of an action piece with the focus on sea-life). The
Batgirl, on the other hand, I think I have no chance of getting. I currently have the high bid and might bid twice as much nearer the end of the auction, but I don't think I'll be able to get it. It's just too beautiful and vibrant a piece.
Then again, you never know.

Strike looming for Canada Post staffers -
Canada Post needs to get this resolved now. Everything I hear and read about it paints Canada Post as incredibly flippant and argumentative and not addressing the (to me) legitimate claims of the postal worker union. They haven't had a contract since it expired in January and could strike anytime but still seem to be purposely putting it off. Canada Post just doesn't seem to care.
►
Fifty Baddies (movie villains) - I think I can identify 42 of the headshots in the drawing. Maybe 43.
►
HeroesCon 2011 Sketchbook Cover (Budd Root drawing) - Now there's an image I never would have expected to see.

Star Trek conventions were all about ass. I had no idea.
And speaking of 70s conventions...
