Batgirl, By The Skin Of My Teeth
► I am both shocked and amazed I managed to pull it off. That Batgirl auction I mentioned last night ended tonight, and somehow I was able to successfully "snipe" and win the drawing, after being out bid (on a low-ball bid) this morning, and while 2 or 3 guys were trying to snipe it at the same time. In the end I won the drawing with a final price of $53.52. My max bid, ten seconds before the auction ended, was $53.67. A mere 15 cents. Geez. I'm not expecting to ever come that close again.
Here is the scan of my newly won Batgirl drawing from the auction. I can hardly wait to get this in the mail, someday (see below).
► Postal union files strike notice - It's official, the Canada Post workers strike starting Thursday. This sucks because I have a bunch of packages on the way that will now presumably be stuck in a factory somewhere for God knows how long. All those delicate drawings I've bought recently, and the John Wayne sign I ordered for Dad for Father's Day (**shhh** don't tell him; I'm going to get him something else too).
In all the rhetoric that's been in the news about the impending strike and the dealings between Canada Post and the postal worker union, neither side seems to have any understanding that in negotiations both sides have to make concessions. It's irritating.Dran: You know....
Dran: .... I think what you just said is the reason it's weird
Dran: They have your stuff
Derek: or will soon
Dran: And they're refusing to give it to you.
Derek: yep
Dran: Unless your government gives in to their demands.
Derek: terrorism!
Dran: Well, at least extortion.

The terrorism comment was a joke. Anyway, this is the first postal strike in 14 years, when the Canadian government eventually forced the workers back to work after 16 days. I wonder how it'll play out this time.
► Exclusive: Criminal Minds Boss on Paget Brewster's Return: "It Feels Rewarding" - I asked again, what was the point of releasing both Paget Brewster and (the also resigned) A.J. Cook last year? At least I can start watching it again.
► Jolie Will Axe Sexiness From Cleopatra Role - Granted it's now generally accepted that Cleopatra was not a great beauty as legend has it, and attracted men with her power and charisma, but do audiences really want to see a non-sexy movie with a plain Angelina Jolie playing Cleopatra? The truth is what documentaries are for. Movies are about legends, myths and dreams.
► 'The Hobbit' Movies Get Official Titles and Release Dates - Hard to believe the first is only one and a half years away.
