► Earlier today I went out with Dad to run my weekly errands. I bought an indoor/outdoor thermometer for my bedroom, because I finally want to know exactly how hot it is in here. Now I know. Apparently with the computer off my bedroom is 28 degrees Celsius (82 and a bit Fahrenheit), and with the computer on it's 31 degrees Celsius (87.8 degrees Fahrenheit). All with no air flow or breeze, which is why I'm currently sitting here topless and sweating.
On the plus side, my brother called to tell us that the hospital office building his father-in-law works at is renovating their air-conditioning, and is getting ride of the "mostly new" windowsill air-conditioning units. He should be able to get us one for $40. That will be nice.

DC Announces Post-"Flashpoint" Details, Relaunches All Titles - Christ... every title rebooted to number 1, and everyone gets new
Jim Lee designed uniformed outfits with matching high collars?
Superman doesn't even look like Superman. He looks like a composite of
Superboy and
The Eradicator. And apparently for good reason, since the rumour is that since
DC owns Superboy outright, and only 50% of Superman now, they'll just switch all Superman titles to Superboy. All new origins all around.USA Today announced that the changes include costume redesigns for more than 50 superheroes, sprearheaded by Lee, intended "to make characters more identifiable and accessible to comic fans new and old."

"We looked at what was going on in the marketplace and felt we really want to inject new life in our characters and line," Co-Publisher Dan DiDio told the newspaper. "This was a chance to start, not at the beginning, but at a point where our characters are younger and the stories are being told for today's audience."
How do you make characters more identifiable by removing their iconic outfits? This just sounds like gimmick piled on top of gimmick, on top of gimmick. Will it last 2 years? I guess this means that
Power Girl no longer exists at DC, and maybe neither does Superman.
How come I feel like DC has just politely asked me to leave the building, after 30+ years as a fan? Now I'm depressed.
Edit: Ok, I've calmed down a bit. Who knows, maybe it'll be fresh and exciting and good for DC. Maybe it's not just another "Everything is Nu to the Extreme!" relaunch with younger characters, hipper costumes, and all-new number ones. I am excited by the (rumoured) idea of
Grant Morrison and
Phil Jimenez on
Wonder Woman, and Geoff Johns writing a Big Seven Justice League.
Looking at the costumes, I don't mind the Wonder Woman look since it removes the 2 things I disliked in
last year's redesign (the jacket and fingerless gloves). With Superman I can accept him without the britches (they were never "underwear", britches were a leather over-pant worn atop of tights and stockings to keep them from sagging in the center) and in slacks. But I just do not like a high collar on him. It just doesn't look right to me with the cape, much too militaristic which he is not. Also I don't understand what's holding the cape to his shoulders.
Anyway, for all I know I'll love the entire reboot in 5 months. I just think DC has to prove this isn't just another 90s-like gimmick with all-new hip younger heroes.Matt: I don't see why Power Girl would be out of existence
Derek: it's likely a big reboot
Derek: she'll be out of place again
Derek: although....
Derek: the way the article goes, she could end up one of the characters drastically revamped
Derek: DC's going to be a strange and unfamiliar place for awhile
[snip]
Matt: stop fucking worrying about Power Girl
Derek: worrying is what I do best :-D
Matt: she's way to popular to get changed significantly or erased
Matt: a ton of characters are at more risk than her

The Most Emotionally Scarring So-Called Children's Movies of the '80s -
Return To Oz is one of the most disturbing horror movies of the 1980s, made more so by it being made and marketed as a children's fantasy movie. It's a children's movie that opens with Dorothy escaping from an evil insane asylum, narrowly avoiding a scheduled electro-shock lobotomy.

Six DC Comics Projects We Want To See On TV - You know,
Deadman as a supernatural take on
Quantum Leap would make a really good show. I'd watch it.
