► Quiet and boring day, which isn't a complaint. I had the apartment to myself all last night and today. Slept all this morning and then napped for a few hours in the afternoon (in between sorting 1 year worth of comics). It's gotten really cool, and with the still high humidity it's very sleepy weather.

During the night I started reading one of my shelf of unread Terry Pratchett novels: Moving Pictures. I've been putting off reading any of my unread novels because I'm still not finished Roger Stern's Superman: The Never-Ending Battle. But it's been 3 years and the book is so dull I can't seem to get through it. I once read a quote by an author (who it was I've since forgotten) that said you shouldn't force yourself to read a book if you're not getting anything out of it. That it's better to just put it away and find something else that you like better, than expend the time and effort on diminishing returns. That makes perfect sense, but I just can't bring myself to abandon the book and put it on my finished shelf. Stupidly, I feel guilty.

None of this is meant as a slight against Roger Stern, as I enjoyed a lot of his comics growing up (especially his Superman related ones).

"Superman/Batman: Apocalypse" DVD Artwork - They're adapting the second arc of the Superman/Batman comic book? Neat. Hope they fix the all of Jeph Loeb's plot holes and characterization errors. Such as Wonder Woman and the Amazons irrationally attacking Superman in a park using lethal force (they're supernaturally forged swords can kill him) to kidnap the newly found Supergirl, and then Wonder Woman's condescension later at Superman being angry about it. Loeb doesn't seem to care about character consistency or characterization as long as he can write action scenes.

I dropped the title (and traded away my issues) after that story.

Jude Law joining Sacha Baron Cohen in Martin Scorsese's 'Hugo Cabret' - Martin Scorsese directing a 3-D fantasy adventure film staring Sacha Baron Cohen and Jude Law? This reads like a Hollywood version of Mad Libs.

Final Destination 5 Gets Renamed 5NAL DESTINATION - S2pid.

'Supernatural' Exclusive: Mitch Pileggi's return will shed new light on Sam and Dean's past - Mitch Pileggi is awesome. I applaud this.

Internet Rumor: Johnny Depp as Doctor in 'Doctor Who' Film? - I love Johnny Depp, but I don't like this at all. Why should Hollywood make a movie version of such a British show as Doctor Who? Also, it seems unfair to make a movie unrelated to the series. It would be an insult to the fans and to those working on the show. If this was to happen it should be British made, and if not Matt Smith, I'd like to see Christopher Eccleston play the Doctor since we only got to see him for one brief season. Would be great to see him before he met Rose.

Unveiling Wonder Woman’s new costume, direction - Wonder Woman had an iconic look, a costume recognizable the world over, and they felt the need to give her something "hip" and generic?

Derek: why's she dressing like a 90s Jim Lee costume?
Matt: because it is a 90s Jim Lee costume
I don't hate the costume, as it looks ok, but it just does not suit the character. Nothing about it says Greek warrior or even superhero. In fact, all the elements that identify her as Wonder Woman seem to have been drastically minimized or removed. The costume just seems very non-descript now. DC has a habit lately of throwing the baby out with the bathwater when trying to update characters, seemingly thinking "modernizing" them means getting rid of everything that makes the character the character. They should have just made some subtle changes rather than going ridiculous. Look at the awful costume they gave Martian Manhunter a couple of years ago (when they suddenly drew him looking like a Skrull) only to bring him back a few months ago in a much better, tweaked version of his original suit. I'm not impressed.

Martian Manhunter examples from above: original costume, detested 2006 costume, and new preferred update of original
