Questions Meme - Your Chance To Get To Know The Panther

May 05, 2009 12:32

Ok, so through FCN, the LAFF Softball event and other means, I've been able to meet a lot of great folks lately. I still have that "new fur" smell going though, and since I'm sure a lot of you don't know much about me, so here's your chance to get to know me. Leave a question, any question, in this post and I will answer it for you.

roby, questions

I think my story is probably similar to many, with the exception of not finding the fandom til late in life. My interest in it started probably in my younger teen years. I had always liked cartoons & animated movies and such, and it was in my teens when I realized I still wanted to go home and watch "TailSpin" and see animated movies, while my friends had long moved past that. I noticed that I felt a strong connection to those characters and often daydreamed about what it would be like to live in those worlds. However, as a pretty reserved person overall, I pretty much kept it too myself and, that, combined with not being a techy person at the time things like IRC, BBS, and user groups started becoming popular, kept me from discovering the fandom until recently. In a way it's good because I was able to establish my professional life without some of the distractions that being involved with furry can provide, but at the same time, I would have preferred to find the fandom at 25 or 30 instead of 35.

I was asleep when you added me in YIM. I responded this morning though. We have a proprietary chat system at work, so you will find me on evenings and weekends usually.

When did you first get into basketball? And, I thought I asked this but I'm not sure, what's your favorite NBA team? NBA Player? What impresses you the most in the NBA (like a feat, super high scoring games, clutch shots, dunks, what do you like the most in a basketball game?)

Oh, and what cons are thinking of hitting? Any in the SouthEast or FurFright? ;)

And another one. Do you have a full body pic of your fursona? The headshot makes me curious. ;)

And do I get an award for asking the most questions? ^^

As far as playing basketball goes, there was no real point in time for this. I enjoy playing almost all sports. I suck at basketball, but enjoy it, generally just trying to focus on moving the ball around and rebounding. As a fan though, I can tell you the exact time. It was the 1990 NCAA Tournament. I had hurt my hip pretty bad and was forced to stay off my feet completely for several days. The timing just happened to coincide with the opening round of the NCAA tourney. I had never watched it before and it was totally captivating. There were just so many great stories: UNLV rolling everyone, Hank Gathers dying and Bo Kimble shooting free throws left handed in his honor, Duke's run to the final, then getting destroyed by UNLV. I was hoooked. My NBA interest came later through following my favorites college players to their NBA careers. My favorite team is Chicago. Both sides of my family are from the area and I went to school there. My basketball interest came about during the Jordan years, which certainly didn't hurt that cause. My ( ... )

*looks at Lucky's char. sheet* Oh that is going to look AWESOME as a DHC fursuit! I can't wait to see it! :)

Chris Paul is awesome. He was on my fantasy team this year, and he helped me get 2nd place. I just barely lost to the guy who somehow had Lebron James AND Dwyane Wade on his team (along with Kevin Durant, Deron Williams, Ben Gordon and David West).

I need to get into the NCAA more. I'm really surprised that I haven't to this point. The tourney you witnessed sounds like it was one for the ages. :)

I'm considering MegaPlex, but I'll have to see how things go. I know I want to visit my Dad sometime in the summer, but I'm not sure exactly when. We'll see how things go, and if all goes alright, maybe I can see ya there. ^^

That's a pretty killer team that guy had, especially with the strides Durant made this year.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the suit comes out. Of course, I have some time to wait given the April '10 date, but it just gives me a chance to get myself into fursuiting shape :)

I think likely through Nbowa's friends page. The first few people I reached out to (Nbowa, Jase, Crash) I had seen them on YouTube videos and eventually found their profiles on WikiFur, and they seemed cool. Once I got to know a few folks, I just started perusing their friends pages and responding to peoples journals that I found interesting. I figured the best way to try and get to know some folks was just to start commenting around a bit. I'm sure there was a lot of "Who the heck is this guy" thing going around though. I think the first thing that made your journal stand out to me was how you always wish your friends a happy birthday and the icon you have specifically associated for that. I thought it was pretty cool.

It seems that you would eventually get a fursuit, so I would like to ask for your opinion on the F4, aka Fandom's Favorite Fursuit Fracas: how much of it is just a popularity contest, how much of it is a showcase for fursuits, how much of it interests you, and would you participate in it?

As a matter of fact, I've actually already comissioned a fursuit from DHC to be completed for April of next year. As far as the tourney goes, I am following it and I am voting in it. I didn't nominate anyone because I wasn't sure who was ok with being nominated ( ... )
