Jody wasn't entirely sure where she was, but the nice man with long eyes in Pewter City had told her that there was a party in the town next to the forest, and here she was in a forest. So! All she needed to do was cup her ears like a Buneary and listen for noise like people having fun.

"...Gonna eat lots of ice cream," she told Psyduck, who was waddling beside her. "Banana ice cream, or maybe chocolate, or maybe both. And after that we're gonna play every game, and then -- and then -- eat more ice cream..."

Farfetch'd stopped suddenly, holding out its leek to stop Jody in her tracks. She looked up, and just on the other side of a bush was the weirdest person, place or thing she had ever seen.

(She'd learned that in school. Her teacher had said that if you don't know what something is, first decide that it's a person, place or thing.)

It looked kinda like a person, so she figured that it was as good a start as any to finding her daddy. She waved towards it ( ... )

The noise that he made due to surprise could be best compared to the noise a cat would make if it suddenly caught on fire ( ... )

Jody laughed at the man's sudden reaction, having never seen an adult as silly as him. She liked him! It was too bad that he wasn't her daddy. And it was too bad that she wasn't allowed to grab other people's fingers anymore.

"Oh," she said, not sure how else to respond. "I didn't mean to hurt you, mister. I didn't know, you weren't my daddy 'cause you're wearing a mask. I'm looking for my daddy, and I thought it could be you."

She giggled. "You talk really weirdly! Are you going to the party, too? I heard there's one in a city near a forest. Want to go with me?"

What.... a strange girl. A myriad of thoughts went rampant throughout his mind, but that one thought was the one that stood out the most. It was weird for a man as weird as he to think that anyone was weird, but he couldn't help but think that everything about this girl was off. On the other hand, he also felt slightly comfortable... for some reason, this girl wasn't looking at him with eyes that most others would in this situation. It felt nice, but he wasn't going to admit that any time soon. First he had to clear up this misunderstanding ( ... )

Dawn was standing at the edge of the forest. She was tired slightly from all the festivities and wanted a breather. She wasn't expecting much from the forest apart from a few bug Pokemon and trees. Piplup walked beside her as she adjusted her hat and was enjoying the tranquility of the forest.

Except she noticed someone... odd? Was odd the correct term for someone who wore a mask and a lab coat? Had she seen him before?

She just... stared at him. He seemed oddly familiar, but from where? Was it that man from the closet?

In any instance, she couldn't move but she stood transfixed and wondered what was transfixing him.

"You know, staring at someone with those kind of eyes is quite rude...... just kidding, of course! With a man like myself all alone here, it's impossible to not stare with such suspicion and curiosity. Even I would stare at myself if I were in your shoes, but if I were able to see myself without a reflection of sorts, then that would be almost as frightening as dividing by zero. Besides, I don't think my feet would be able to fit in your shoes anyways."

He laughed loudly at his own joke, but it seemed to have been forced out if anything. Though he knew that someone was standing a distance behind him, he continued to stare towards the direction of the festival as he spoke, which made it seem like he was talking to himself. After realizing that the person behind him would not respond or laugh at his joke anytime soon, he turned his head over his shoulder to see if he had been mistaken on someone watching him. He was surprised, though it wasn't because there was someone standing there ( ... )

"Please... don't." Dawn looked away and down towards the ground. This bowing made her feel uncomfortable. She didn't have the gravitas of someone like Cynthia to feel like she commanded such reverence. "I don't need all this, champion exaltation respect things." She looked back up again at him, sighing gently. "At the end of the day, we just wanna have the least amount of fuss to our lives, right?"

She stepped forward cautiously. Piplup hung back, slightly afraid of Luke. He looked strange - stranger than any Pokemon that he had encountered. But Dawn wasn't as taken aback but more curious than anything. Was it a kind of sympathy she felt for him?

"You're the man in the closet from SilphNet. Please, call me Dawn. Don't bother with all these... formalities."

"Haha! I was taught to always respect those that were made of much more grandiose material than yourself, but I suppose those kinds of teachings are of a generation past. You are a Champion, but you are also a young girl... I should have understood that you prefer to be treated as the latter. Forgive me! I meant no harm ( ... )
