Dawn was standing at the edge of the forest. She was tired slightly from all the festivities and wanted a breather. She wasn't expecting much from the forest apart from a few bug Pokemon and trees. Piplup walked beside her as she adjusted her hat and was enjoying the tranquility of the forest.

Except she noticed someone... odd? Was odd the correct term for someone who wore a mask and a lab coat? Had she seen him before?

She just... stared at him. He seemed oddly familiar, but from where? Was it that man from the closet?

In any instance, she couldn't move but she stood transfixed and wondered what was transfixing him.

"You know, staring at someone with those kind of eyes is quite rude...... just kidding, of course! With a man like myself all alone here, it's impossible to not stare with such suspicion and curiosity. Even I would stare at myself if I were in your shoes, but if I were able to see myself without a reflection of sorts, then that would be almost as frightening as dividing by zero. Besides, I don't think my feet would be able to fit in your shoes anyways."

He laughed loudly at his own joke, but it seemed to have been forced out if anything. Though he knew that someone was standing a distance behind him, he continued to stare towards the direction of the festival as he spoke, which made it seem like he was talking to himself. After realizing that the person behind him would not respond or laugh at his joke anytime soon, he turned his head over his shoulder to see if he had been mistaken on someone watching him. He was surprised, though it wasn't because there was someone standing there ( ... )

"Please... don't." Dawn looked away and down towards the ground. This bowing made her feel uncomfortable. She didn't have the gravitas of someone like Cynthia to feel like she commanded such reverence. "I don't need all this, champion exaltation respect things." She looked back up again at him, sighing gently. "At the end of the day, we just wanna have the least amount of fuss to our lives, right?"

She stepped forward cautiously. Piplup hung back, slightly afraid of Luke. He looked strange - stranger than any Pokemon that he had encountered. But Dawn wasn't as taken aback but more curious than anything. Was it a kind of sympathy she felt for him?

"You're the man in the closet from SilphNet. Please, call me Dawn. Don't bother with all these... formalities."

"Haha! I was taught to always respect those that were made of much more grandiose material than yourself, but I suppose those kinds of teachings are of a generation past. You are a Champion, but you are also a young girl... I should have understood that you prefer to be treated as the latter. Forgive me! I meant no harm ( ... )

"Well it seems as if even the energy of youth today has its limit!"

He let out another over-exaggerated laugh at his own words, which sounded a tad strange when coming out of his filter; however, his laugh quickly died down when Dawn's outstretched hand came into his view. He wasn't very used to interacting with people in this matter (or at all, really), so he was really unsure of how to respond. There was a tiny part of him that even thought this could all just be some kind of act, but he didn't want to believe in the possibility of a trap and shoved it down into the deepest recesses of his mind. After a few minutes of awkward silence, he eventually extended his arm out and timidly gripped Dawn's hand with his own, hanging his head low and sheepishly rubbing the back of it with his other hand

"No need to apologize," he said, as the handshake broke up. "Knowing of and knowing are two completely different things, as the Dawn standing in front of me is completely different from the Dawn that millions of other people only know from the ( ... )

"Piplup are proud Pokemon by nature," began Dawn, recalling the words of the first ever Pokedex entry she read. "They don't like being in groups much, often they're individuals. Even when they're evolved they don't like being in groups."

Piplup smiled at nodded, sticking his chest out proudly for a moment before walking back to stay close to his trainer. Dawn patted him on the head then turned her attention back to Luke.

She looked at the man crouching down, wondering curiously why he was staying there. Perhaps he found the position comfortable? Dawn wasn't entirely sure but some people find comfort in the strangest things, especially trainers.

"Luke Maschera? Well, I'm definitely glad to meet you then Luke." His words depressed her slightly. Millions of nobodies? That didn't make sense to her.

"There aren't millions of nobodies." she began quietly. "There are millions of somebodies. Every person, deep down has something inside of them. Something special that makes them, well, them."

"Oh, are they really?" Luke questioned, his attention turning back to Piplup. "I've never left Kanto my entire life, so I'm not too familiar with the ins and outs of foreign Pokemon such as these. In fact, I rarely get a chance to see Pokemon that aren't indigenous to Kanto, so this is quite the treat indeed!"

As he was slowly getting up from his crouched position, he couldn't help but notice that Dawn had been giving him a strange look since he was down there. Hmm? Was there something that he did wrong? Did she think he was some kind of freak for crouching like that for a long period of time? He attempted to give her a look that read 'no I do not enjoy getting into the pooping position in public areas', but then he realized that she wasn't able to see his facial expression behind his mask anyways, so he let the situation go. After all, there were more important things that needed to be discussed ( ... )
