Closed: Lavender - Did that happen? (Maeve & Lily later?)

When he first woke up that morning, Roger had buried his face in Lavender's hair and tried to hide from the stripes of sun that were sneaking in through the curtains. Slowly, things had come back to him. Through the feelings of a hangover tugging at the edges of his awareness, Roger remembered celebrating with Lavender - giddy that the ( Read more... )

Lavender woke up a few hours later, well into the early afternoon despite her usual schedule, with a dull throbbing building behind her eyes. She stretched and reached for Roger but found an empty pillow instead ( ... )

Try as he did, things had taken a little - a lot - longer than he'd planned. There were certain things he couldn't rush, though. Apparently getting married spur of the moment wasn't one of those.

He grinned to himself as he kicked the door closed behind him. Glancing around, he didn't actually see a sign of Lavender anywhere. She usually beat him awake when she stayed over, but maybe the wine had hit her a little harder than he'd thought. Settling the take-out lunch containers on the counter, Roger kept one small bag in his hand as he headed toward the bedroom in search of his wife.

Wife. Just thinking the word brought a smile to his face all over again. Moments later, though, it slipped into a look of pure confusion.

When he reached the doorway, Lavender had her back to him, busy stuffing things into her well-used overnight bag.

"Hey. You're up. What are you doing?"

Her heart jumped when he spoke and she smiled despite herself. She reminded herself what kind of situation they had gotten themselves into.

When she turned back to him, Lavender was chewing on her bottom lip and shrugged.

What did he expect?

"I woke up and you weren't here so I just thought-" Lavender trailed off, studying his face. He didn't look like somebody who regretted his spur of the moment, drunken marriage to his childhood sweetheart. Roger's brows usually furrowed in a certain way, his eyes grew sadder. He looked more confused than anything.

So Lavender trailed off and let him fill in the blanks.

As he put the pieces together, Roger's expression did change to a regretful one. Not because he regretted marrying her - never that - but because he should have known better.

"No. Not even close, Lav." Shaking his head, he crossed the room and settled his free hand on her cheek, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I had some errands. I brought lunch. You looked so good sleeping, I just. I wanted to surprise my new wife," Roger grinned as he looked back down at her.
