When he first woke up that morning, Roger had buried his face in Lavender's hair and tried to hide from the stripes of sun that were sneaking in through the curtains. Slowly, things had come back to him. Through the feelings of a hangover tugging at the edges of his awareness, Roger remembered celebrating with Lavender - giddy that the

Sitting up slowly, the entire night started to filter back in.
The news. The wine. The ring.
The chapel.
She ran her hands through her hair and felt the metal of the ring brush up against her skin. Pulling back, Lavender marveled at the shine of the simple diamond. It may have been little but it was beautiful.
"Roger?" she called, pulling herself from the warmth of the bed. There was a giddiness inside her that lingered from the night before as she walked on the balls of her feet through his flat in search of her husband.
The flat was quiet and she poked her head into the living room, chewing on her bottom lip. She quickly realized it was a little too quiet.
Roger wasn't here. The flat was empty.
Her stomach knotted up instantly, anxiety and worry building up inside her as her mind began to race.
"He regrets it-" she breathed, heading back into his bedroom to gather her things. It was heartbreaking but she was doing her best to be practical about the whole thing.
They had been drunk. They weren't thinking clearly. Roger had his daughter to think about and she was his priority.
As she stuffed clothes into her overnight pack, Lavender heard the front door open.

He grinned to himself as he kicked the door closed behind him. Glancing around, he didn't actually see a sign of Lavender anywhere. She usually beat him awake when she stayed over, but maybe the wine had hit her a little harder than he'd thought. Settling the take-out lunch containers on the counter, Roger kept one small bag in his hand as he headed toward the bedroom in search of his wife.
Wife. Just thinking the word brought a smile to his face all over again. Moments later, though, it slipped into a look of pure confusion.
When he reached the doorway, Lavender had her back to him, busy stuffing things into her well-used overnight bag.
"Hey. You're up. What are you doing?"

When she turned back to him, Lavender was chewing on her bottom lip and shrugged.
What did he expect?
"I woke up and you weren't here so I just thought-" Lavender trailed off, studying his face. He didn't look like somebody who regretted his spur of the moment, drunken marriage to his childhood sweetheart. Roger's brows usually furrowed in a certain way, his eyes grew sadder. He looked more confused than anything.
So Lavender trailed off and let him fill in the blanks.

"No. Not even close, Lav." Shaking his head, he crossed the room and settled his free hand on her cheek, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I had some errands. I brought lunch. You looked so good sleeping, I just. I wanted to surprise my new wife," Roger grinned as he looked back down at her.

She really, really loved being called his wife.
"Thank Merlin-" she said, trying not to laugh at herself for the conclusions she had jumped to.
"What errands did you have?"

"I had to pick up some things. Like this," Roger held up the bag. He stepped back from her and pulled a small, less dusty than the one before, black velvet box from the tiny bag.
"The ring you have... It's what I got then. I wanted you to have the one I'd have gotten you now instead."

That didn't even matter now.
He was standing in front of her with yet another box and this time, somehow, Lavender was even more shocked. She pressed her hand to her chest and could feel her heart beat racing.
"Roger, you didn't have to do that. I love this ring," she told him, meeting his gaze. Though, she would have loved any ring that Roger gotten her. She even loved the last-minute piece of yard wrapped around her finger.
"I told you that I don't need a big fancy wedding or ring or- well, anything like that. I have you."

"But I'd give you the world if you just asked. Which you won't, because you're amazing." In all the time he'd known her, Lavender had asked for so little, really. Roger couldn't resist going a bit overboard. Especially when it was something like this. Spur of the moment as it was, Lavender deserved a ring that at least began to say just how invested he was in her, in them, in this spur of the moment marriage.
Roger opened the box on a diamond ring that put the last one to shame. "This is what I should have proposed to you with."

But then she saw it.
Lavender's jaw literally fell open as her eyes widened. The ring caught the light and shone brilliantly. It was easily the most beautiful piece of jewelry she had ever seen.
"Oh, Roger," she breathed, looking back up at him in awe. It was over the top and it wasn't anything she would ever pick out for herself. But it was also perfect because it was the ring Roger wanted her to have.
"But I'll only take it if I can keep them both. I want to wear the first one around my neck. It's special."
Reply
"It's yours. I'd never take it from you."

"Wait- but what about you? I need to go out and get you a wedding band!"
Reply
"We'll go later. I didn't want to do the actual wedding bands without you."

She had simple taste, buying mostly costume jewelry when she was younger because she knew how clumsy she was. Even now that she was older, and thankfully much more responsible, jewelry had never made it to the top of her 'much have' list.
Of course, this was different.
"That's perfect," she told him, feeling that excitement build back up.
"But I think we probably have a few things to figure out now? Being happily married and all?"
Reply
It wasn't actually much of a question. There was no way they wouldn't figure everything out. It might take longer than lunch, honestly, but they'd get it all worked out.
They were married. Everything else - most everything else - was just details.

They could overcome anything.
"Oh lunch-" Lavender touched her stomach which was rumbling now, eager for something greasy and terrible for her. "What did you pick up, love?"

He didn't actually know anything about rings and wasn't about to owl his sisters for help - not quite ready for that lecture just yet.
He held to ting up and wiggled it a little. Then he took her hand and slid it into place, pulling her hand high enough to kiss her knuckles.
