I didn't decide to boycott because of that but because it was suddenly done unannounced (the first anybody heard of it was when they tried to open an account) and because initially a large number of interests initially disappeared from the Most Popular page; they reappeared just as mysteriously but it made a lot of people, including me, start seriously worrying about future censorship. I'm not much into fanfiction but I certainly wouldn't want to see it banned.

I was initially enraged about it; and as sollersuk says, it's not so much about the "business decision" part of it, but the fact that it was done unannounced.

But a one-day boycott on Good Friday is just stupid.

I'm with you. I just keep thinking, "Why does this matter?" There seems to be a certain segment of LJ that likes to be martyred, though and forgets that this isn't our site and we don't make the rules. If you want a blog/journal that does x, y, and z, either go to one of the other communities running the LJ software from when it was freeware or start up your own with one of the older versions.

I must admit, I never read my LJ news -- so I didn't know that they were removing basic accounts...what does that mean, exactly, for those of us who still have them? Maybe I'd better go read about it, huh.
