Oh wow, I'm sort of fascinated by that Civil War show. It's a period of history I really don't know anything near enough about but would love to know more of - and, well, if they actually succeed in getting Damian Lewis, Richard Speight Jr., Jason O'Mara and POWERS FUCKING BOOTHE (that name. that 'tache.), well, I'm just going to have to watch it. Though it somehow feels too good to be true right now. Maybe I just expect a big-budget historical drama to have a more professional-looking website.
Also, ugh, I hear you on fic indecision. I have so many WIPs going right now and I can't focus on any of them. (Open in WordPad right now? Haldane/Sledge PWP, which is actually proving incredibly difficult to write. I have a suspicion the next draft of this is going to bear very little resemblance to this one.)
Growing up in NC, the Civil War is always kind of there but I actually know little about it, since I moved to the state from New York in the year when we start studying the Civil War. Being one of two "Yankees" in the room, and being singled out by the teachers as such, really made me pull back from the subject for YEARS. I am finally starting to get back into it
( ... )
Damn, I can imagine that being terribly awkward. Amazing how old divides still linger. (I was going to make some vague comment about how that really isn't the same case with the English Civil War, but duh, that happened centuries earlier, that's why. ...though then again, Yorkshire and Lancashire still have a bit of a rivalry, and the Wars of the Roses were even longer ago. And weren't really originally anything to do with the counties anyway.)
Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it on IMDB. It does seem like the kind of project Richard Speight Jr. would do - that guy likes any excuse to grow a big-ass moustache - but yeah, it seems like too high-profile a cast to really be true. We'll have to wait and see.
...I think this fic's gonna be a while coming, it's not exactly flowing well right now. But I'm chipping away at lots of things, one piece at a time. I suppose it's better when we have lots of ideas and it's hard to focus, rather than having no ideas at all.
The worst was when I first moved down here and they tried to make me sing the "I'm a Tarheel born, I'm a Tarheel bread" song. Even at 9 1/2, I was not having that shit.
It does amaze me how all the old conflicts linger.
I def. think, of the actors on the wishlist, Richard Speight Jr. is highly likely. From what I've been able to suss out, it's going to be 8 episdoes. Who knows? I won't get super-excited until shooting starts.
Being cast in an HBO-show has to be a dream-job for an actor, and if you're good you'll basically have work for the rest of your life. This Civil War mini-series seems so interesting, and just saw HBO has picked up Aaron Sorkin's new show too! Can't wait to see who's being cast there.
THIS RAIN. ARGH. It's just dreary as shit. And it needs to go away //twitch
That Civil War series would be amazing if it's definite, but I have to agree with Skew that the website is a little, um ... lacking for such a project? ('Wow, that is a really pixelated banner' was kind of my first thought.) No harm in keeping my fingers crossed though.
And I totally understand where you're coming from with all those WIPs. I have so many ideas I want to draw I basically have no idea where to start :C I can't wait to see what you end up finishing though!
Seriously, the rain is making me think about ark-building. It will not stop. I know it could be worse, it could be snow, but snow doesn't flood the streets.
The mini-series IS happening in terms of HBO's signed on for it, Rascall Flatts have already confirmed their work with it, but I doubt HBO will put any official promo shots out there until actual shooting has started. The webiste is def. sad, sad, sad, but since I'm guessing when they started it in 2009 to pitch an idea, they were taking whatever they could get? The proposed cast does have a lot of actors who have worked with HBO before, but it still seems like the crew is reaching a bit too far in terms of casting.
Skew is right there, it's much better to have too many ideas than no ideas at all.
I read about it in some article with Michael C. Hall and was all, "What is this?" and then thought of you and all, "OMG, does she know?" I just wish we had a full cast, a shooting schedule, anything, but at this point it's going to be YEARS. Ugh.
I would offer my firstborn for some Eddie Jones and Hawkeye Pierce. That would be amazing. Also, the Civil War fic, yes, I do want. Whenever it happens. I am over here silently rooting for it. With banjos.
And *hugs* thank you. A lot of my coping is that a) the hardest grieving part hasn't hit yet, that'll be in about a year or so. We're still sort of at the shock level and b/c b) I know for a fact my Grandmother would kick my ass if I moped and, like, stopped everything in my life. She was all about the holding your head high and pushing on. I still get weepy, but it hasn't even been a week, so that's going to linger for sometime.
