When mods from fic-comms start defending genocide appropriaton, you know it's time to step back from that fandom for a bit. Granted, I know it's a comm populated by generally less-sensitive, less-thought provking members of the fandom, but still, damn. Way to show lack of respect for pretty much everything and abusing points of authority. And no, " ( Read more... )

You just had to poke at it didn't you? Yes. A break. The internet is both a lovely and wanky place.

HP. I can't anymore and I don't know why. Maybe it's the movies - I haven't even seen a movie since the 3rd or 4th one but those books will always hold a special place in my heart. I do however want to visit the newly opened theme park. I hear the frozen butterbeer is great and have you seen the wand choosing ceremony? Oh Lord! I'm 13 again! I waannt to be chosen ;_;

Drink lots of water and try Egyptian methods of keeping cool...actually works!

Honestly, all comments on the story, most of which pointed out how offensive it was as a protrayed subject matter, were on the author's post in their own comm. The mod took it upon herself, being a fan of said author, to post a mod post in a fic-comm it was linked basically saying, "if you're not critiquing the grammar, you're not offering constructive criticism." Which, as well all know, is bullshit. It's not something I so much had to poke as I felt I had to defend, having met with and spoken to actual Holocaust Survivors. I'm not saying it's impossible to write a good, respectful fictional story using the Holocaust as a backdrop. I am saying you don't make it about two US soldiers who would never be there to satisfy a prompt in a H/C bingo chanllenge and then use the gates of Auschwitz as a photo reference because you "like the phrase on the gates." Anyone who knows what that phrase is, and knows what it truly meant, would have been out for blood ( ... )

I would ask for more exacting details of the fic but in that path lies madness.

I love that show. You couldn't pay me enough.

There does go the way of madness.

I just sort of watch all of Ice Truckers with my jaw dropped. Like, damn, and you people willingly do that? Damn.

And just what is wrong with being 30? :P
The HP theme park looks nifty ,but I've heard some reviews saying it wasn't that great. I still want to go though.
Ok, and just what fandom is using the Holocaust to write fanfiction? Not to bash them or anything, but you need to really know what you are writing about when you choose that topic. I, myself, have only read once piece of Holocaust fanfic (Hetalia based and actually was pretty good. It was told from Germany's point of view when he first gets orders to start sending "undesirables" away to the camps and his thoughts on what this could mean for his country and its people.),and yeah, you really shouldn't take the matter lightly.
Ok, time to get ready for work. Drink lots of water and gatorade (gag) and cool your pulse points, Shannon. Here's hoping you stay cool!

Nothing at all. Except some people sort of look at you odd when you get excited about, well, Harry Potter theme parks ( ... )

Wow. Just wow. Well, I will just not even go there. Gah.
Heck, I'm 30 now, and I get excited over Harry Potter theme parks. My sister is 35 and is excited over it. I think its good to get excited over things that make you happy, even if some people feel that its something out of your age-range. It just proves that you are young at heart or something. :P

Yeah, it's one of those "what the? You're joking, right?" things.

And ack! I meant Dr. Mengele. Big difference.

I am excited about the HP theme park, b/c I just want to see how they "set" the stores up. I know it's overpriced, but hello, theme park. And I know fat people like moi can't get on all the rides, but again, sort of used to that thing. Still, I really, really want to go. It'll cost and arm and a leg, but, you know, something else to save for.
