Caradoc had drunk at least three cups of coffee earlier, it was a beautiful day and he was very much in the mood for some fun.
Helping Lily prank James Potter definitely qualified as fun. His Ravenclaw pride was laughing maniacally at both the thought of pranking a fellow Quidditch player and at using such a tricky spell at the same time.
He ambled up to the broom shed, spotting two red heads lounging against it in the distance. Caradoc grinned and jogged to get there faster.
"Hello ladies, ready for some pranking?" Caradoc inquired with a wink.
Without waiting for a reply, he leaned over and tapped the doorknob all the while whispering the password so the girls couldn't hear.
Have to preserve trade secrets and all, he thought wryly.
The door clicked open and Caradoc swung it forwards, gesturing towards Lily. "After you, Ms. Evans."
Lily stepped inside, wiping her hands on her jeans to stop them from sweating. "I'm ready for it," she said with typical Gryffindor bravery and bravado.
The question "which one is his" was about to be asked, but then she saw the wall with the broom lined neatly on the side. One such broom had a sign "Quidditch God James Potter" above it, so she shrugged and shook her head, smiling.
"Must be his, eh? Gwen, are you going to keep watch or do you want me to set a Caterwauling Charm? I know how badly you want to make the chicken cluck, so I won't forget."
"O Wise One, I like that name," Caradoc said with a smug grin.
"As for where to begin, Lily and I did some research. She's managed to figure out how to do the spell to turn it into a chicken, as was originally planned."
Caradoc laughed softly as he leaned against the wall of the broom shed. "As I am a 7th Year and therefore wiser then the both of you, I'll manage the special delaying charm that we read about so that it won't transfigure until the perfect moment."
He nodded at Gwen. "What do you say? Sounds Prewett worthy to me."
Caradoc turned to Lily. "Well, then, you get to start, Lils. Good luck."
"Ok," Lily said slowly, tongue out of her mouth in concentration. After a moment, she swished and flicked her wand, said pullusfalsus, and the broom turned into a giant rubber chicken.
"So now we know it works. I'll change it back, Caradoc, do the delaying spell, and then I'll do my spell again... Then, Gwen, you make it cluck."
She waited for Caradoc, said the spell again, and then turned to Gwen. "Your turn."
Lily panicked a bit and all possible uses of Disillusion Charms flew out of her head in a rush of adrenaline. She really should have thought about doing that earlier. Luckily, she had learned a silent "Muffliato" charm years before when trying to drown out roommates screaming about the "cocky bastard otherwise known as Sirius Black" when she was trying to sleep. She locked eyes with Gwen and nodded, casting the spell so at least nobody could hear them breathing.
She trusted Caradoc to be a master of stealth, much more so than herself, a Gryffindor.
