Kingsley took a deep breath. James Potter was a whole lot of babbles and gestures, even if he was attractive. Kings briefly wondered if because James was attractive he could get away with acting like a discombobulated ostrich and still be charming, or if it was just a Gryffindor thing.
"You know, James," Kingsley rumbled, about to comment on the open door, but thought better of it as James burst through it the way he did. He supposed if there were intruders, he'd have James' back. Even though he was a lot of flailing, Kingsley liked him. He was a good bloke.
Instead, he continued in a different manner. "I'm playing Keeper now, so your Chasing skills will seem that much less worthy of admiration this season. You do know that, right? Me and Keeper means you'll look pathetic."
Kingsley thought he saw a flash of red hair but discounted that, because if Fabian Prewett were hiding in the shed, he'd be noticed in an instant. Gryffindors. So obvious.
James turned around and looked at Kingsley? Pathetic. Yeah, that was definitely entirely possible. If he didn't know that Kingsley was such a good bloke, he'd be bloody terrified of him
( ... )
Kingsley had just been inspecting his broom for wrongdoing -- what, the door had been open! -- when James' question about him being a Quidditchy-Poof filtered into his brain. He dropped the broom and stammered, "..a...a...Quidditch-y Poof? Lily Evans thinks I'm gay?"
Thoughts roiling in a big mess of who-told-who-what, Kingsley picked up his broom. He knew, deep down, that if he didn't start telling somebody, he'd never get to third base with Caradoc. And if his lack of sleep was any indication, he'd have to be telling people very, very soon. But Frank first.
Uncomfortably, Kings tried to joke, "I don't know Potter, would losing on the Pitch to a poof upset you?"
Caradoc raised an eyebrow and nearly choked at hearing James Potter's question.
Merlin, that boy has no sense of tact, he thought, torn between amusement and pity for a clearly faltering Kingsley.
Somehow he didn't think that Kingsley would state loudly and proudly in the musty and smelly old broomshed to James 'I am God of Quidditch and Gryffindor' Potter that he was, in fact, a complete poofter.
At Kingsley's verbal stumbling, he really did wish that there was some way that he could make the situation more awkward.
His life as a whole had been increasingly awkward as of late.
Caradoc shifted uncomfortably as he felt a large splinter in the wall digging into his back.

Awkward, indeed.
