Pranking the Prank Master [Prank is done, but you can READ it!]
It seemed simple enough so far.
Lily and Gwen had explained to Gideon the plan to prank James and had received a very enthusiastic thumbs up. He had stolen a pair of James' boxer shorts one day when James was in class so that Lily could charm them as part two of Prank Day's excursion. One night in the library was spent charming the underpants to leave a heart with her name on them somewhere in the vicinity of James' arse. This charm seemed simple enough, but Lily worried that for some reason, one of the other occupants of the Marauder dormitory would somehow find themselves with her name on their person.
Gwen had suggested that the charm work with a trigger. When a particular word was said by the wearer of the underpants it would leave the heart. Lily had chosen "swimmingly." Nobody but James said words like swimmingly, even if other people could potentially wear James' underpants.
The second step of Prank Day required more of an effort than just stealing underpants. Lily waited for Gwen and Caradoc outside of the broom shed near the Quidditch Pitch. Caradoc needed to both help her into the shed and talk her through some of the charm/transfiguration work that they had been practicing. Nervous butterflies fluttered about her stomach at the prospect of potentially breaking James' broom. She didn't think he'd ever forgive her for something like that, but if the prank went off... Well, maybe he'd stop thinking of her as some sort of mirage. Or kill her. Or snog her. Whichever. It was worth it, a prank of this caliber.
