So first of all, a pre-emptive bit of blah blah blah. These are all very old meshes, the most recent is probably five years old. There are some benefits to older meshes: low poly, low file size, mapping usually leads to low texture file sizes, and tend to have more ages available than some of the very recent meshes. Some downsides to older meshes: weird/no animations, occasional unfixed mesh flaws, weird mapping leading to texturing issues, mapping requiring me to up the texture size to compensate for stretching (luckily, only one this time!).
Me attempting to make old meshes prettier isn't exactly a new thing. Every time I do a lot of hairs, I improve my skill set by quite a bit and get better at this. Some of these hairs I've made attempts at before and only now am deeming them a success. With that said, a couple of these hair meshes...I don't know if it can get any better than what I did. But if you used any of these in the past and have nostalgia, or there hasn't ever been a mesh close enough to the old one, or if any of these were a specific character's hair and you've been needing it...hopefully you can find some use with these!
Finally, I seem to be doing all right with mediafire again and have uploaded the hairs there for now. If you have any issues with them, let me know, and I'll mirror at box! I just...my mediafire is so organized I'm loathe to abandon it.
As always, meshes included with everything, and it's all compressorized.
Only one male hair this time. I've got a couple more older ones in the works...mostly Raon, and those have some annoying mapping so I've been procrastinating! This hair is available for all ages and is flagged as a hat. Everyone gets the nice neutral gray hat. We've got Pooklet's four natural families, binned with an elder gray for each attached to the brown, and a few unnaturals: Shockwave, Toxicity, Flammable, Nuclear, and Hazardous. Unnaturals are all ages.
Download Here! Next up, a really old Peggy hair that I've always liked the shape of. Haven't been able to bring myself to use it in years, because of the awful original textures. There's a bit of a flaw in the mapping, which has taken me a few different attempts to tackle. There's a sharp cut off on the back of the head where two chunks of texture get stuck together. It's not terribly obvious if you're not looking for it...which means I finally succeeded! This one's for all ages, and in the four natural families.
Download Here! Lovely XM Sims hair that really was only waiting on me getting proficient enough with photoshop's warp tool and also creating unique wave textures. All ages, four natural families, plus unnaturals: Napalm, Toxicity, Atomic, Nuclear, Noxious, Tetryl.
Download Here! Without a doubt, I think this is the hair that turned out the worst, but I still don't know how much better I could do, given the mapping. I have a couple sims I used this hair on, so I wanted an updated version for that. Also, I think this one had an interesting oddity about it: the toddler age doesn't exist. When I cloned it in bodyshop, it didn't link it to a maxis toddler hair, either. Less work for me on the binning end, but weeeeird! This is Child-Elder, in the four natural families.
Download Here! Man, this hair is so-so from the front. I hated having my big picture of the front.
So have a big version of one of the side views. That's a bit more reason for retexturing this hair. :D This is all ages, in Pooklet's four natural families. Each family has a different hair color ribbon. So Kira up here is wearing a Tetryl ribbon for Family 4. The one ribbon you can't see, up in the main pic where Pansy's wearing Fission brown...the ribbon is Flurophore (light purple).
Download Here! This one is straight-forward, easy, and has probably been done before. Y'all know this never stops me. This one's all ages, and done in four natural families.
Download Here! I never knew this one could look this good. The original had these weird tendril things dangling from the curl-puffs on the sides and...I actually withheld judgment, retextured that part, took a look, then...alphaed that ugly shit out. All ages, four natural families.
Download Here! Fairly simple hair. A bit of weirdness to the animation. But still worth having in rotation! All ages, four natural families.
Download Here! It's been done, sure. But this one is soft and shiny the way I like, and I swear I had to attempt this hair four times before I was happy. The barette still looks white because a light, neutral gray texture on that thing still leaves it looking white. Oh well. All ages, four natural families.
Download Here! Either this hair or the next is the "newest" of the bunch, and still pretty old. This one's been done before, but I'm picky, again. Each family has a different colored accessory. The one you can't see is a Cannonball (medium blue) accessory on Pansy's Brisance recolor shown from the back. All ages, four natural families.
Download Here! Last, but not least, some adorable wavy pigtails. Since I'm still pretty shit at alphas, I like that I'm getting better at making wavy textures to fit what are decent-as-they-already-are alphas. Each family gets its own accessory color--which are actually visible in all the angles for once! This hair's all ages, and in the four natural families.
Download Here! Note: This is the hair I had to double textures on. I just couldn't get the mapping around the head, especially on the back, to not make the texture fuzzy and/or stretched without making the texture larger. I even tried laying down a higher-res texture and resizing back down when I was done. No dice. ...I mean, double-sized in this instance is still just 1024x1024, but it kinda peeves me since a lot of newer hairs are mapped well enough I can size textures down to 512x512.
ANYWAY, lots of hairs, lots of words, hope you enjoyed something. Probably won't have new hair for awhile, because I'm clearing this lot out so I've got a clean slate going into GoS Blind Date, which I joined. I should have a Laurince update soon...I haven't processed the pics yet, though.
