I kind of think Vietnam might have had something to do with it. In every war prior to that, there was a clearly marked right side and wrong side -- and we were always in the right. But Vietnam was different. We went in with an unclear purpose, we stayed far too long, and news coverage of the conflict was far bloodier than any previous war. In addition, the culture here at home was going through its own set of changes. I think Vietnam really shook our faith in the presidential office, and was probably a leading cause in the cynicism you see today.

It's just a theory, though. I wasn't even alive during Vietnam, after all.

Good point. There are other things. Horrid anti-reason, anti-truth philosophy is a big one.

Also communism.

Also white guilt

The list goes on. I hate it. :(
